Yeah I question that as well but can only assume someone (male perhaps) wanted a reasoning for guys to check out her body because that didn't make sense. When I even assume my father could easily walk in my room I would keep a robe nearby to throw on. Perhaps she did and I just don't recall scene too well but from your description she most likely had window curtains/blinds open as well.

It was an attempt by the director to add sex appeal to an otherwise very wholesome film. Same thing with Lee Montgomery's intro into the film playing basketball without a shirt.
sharehim playing basketball WAS sexy. yes by all means. needed more of him shirtless. But considering most of the movie audience is teen heterosexual girls--the little brother was unnecessary. Should have been cut.
