Music change in mall scene from what I remember first time I watched this.

Yes, I still have my store-bought VHS copy of this movie and during the scene where Ian and Max first see Lisa in the mall after Gary and Wyatt get the Slushee bath, the song being played clear out to the parking lot where Lisa rides away with the boys in the black Porche was the Weird Science opening theme song by Oingo Boingo but every time
I’ve seen the movie on TV or HBO or something and even on my DVD or BluRay copy, they changed the song to Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison. Wonder why they changed it.

That's actually Van Halen's version of Pretty Woman from the original theatrical cut missing from tv broadcasts and home video till around 2007. It will probably never stop causing confusion after being gone for so many years.

Yeah, you’re right, I don’t know why I said Roy Orbison….lol. I guess I didn’t realize Van Halen sang it too but what do you mean, Van Halen’s Pretty Woman is missing from the original theatrical cut?

Like I said in my original post, I have a store-bought VHS version of this movie that I’ve had ever since the late 80’s/early 90’s that plays the Weird Science song throughout that scene, not Pretty Woman and it wasn’t until some time after that when one day I was watching this movie on something- can’t remember if it was like HBO or something or if it was a network channel like TBS, USA network or something alike with commercials in it when I noticed the song during that scene was changed.

I meant Van Halen's Pretty Woman was used when Weird Science was shown in theaters, but due to rights issues, it had to be replaced when the movie went to home video and tv broadcasts until around 2007. The song has been restored because the studio got back the right to use the song.

Ohhhh, now I follow what you’re saying. I guess I didn’t realize the theatrical version is what you primarily see now where they use the Pretty Woman song instead of the main theme that was due to rights issues that was apparently resolved in 07…. Interesting.

So in other words, I probably own maybe one of very few old copies of this movie that has what is now the alternate song in it from what you see now and what you saw at the theater if you were so lucky to have seen it there.
