This is a bad film

But it made a lot of money so what do I know?
Having admitted that, I still think it's bad and I believe I would have done so at the time. It's basically an exercise in posing, saying bad lines meaningfully and making sure Brigitte Nielsen looks good (which she does - surprisingly so - clearly my memory is faulty on many levels). According to the IMDb trivia it was effectively directed by an egotistical Stallone and cut to pieces prior to release producing multiple continuity errors - which to be honest I didn't notice anyway.

i understand your critic. i am sly fan so i like his film but i can see why you dont like this film.

cobra have problem because it was suppose to be huge film, sly's beverly hills cop, but they release it same time as top gun and this cause problem. sly recut movie to compete with top gun and top gun destroy cobra. but it is still good film. it is classic sly action film. i once own this film on vhs with tango & cash.

bridget nielsen look ok in this film. she look better in red sonya. but she give good performance in this film.

if you want more info's on this great 80s film i suggest you watch interview with bryan thompson who play the night slasher. he have good story on stallone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XKRBSoN8yU

and interview with cinemagrapher ric waite who has a good sly story: https://youtu.be/cyNeQPu-wvA?t=50

NOPE...COBRA IS A GREAT MOVIE.

The chase scene as Cobra is leaving the hospital with the witness he is protecting seemed very illogical to me. Why go after the bad guys with the girl in the car? I believe thats against police procedure

reply

I’ve always wondered that myself, and the car freaking flips over and he put his witness in jeopardy. .

reply

I was surprised by this scene because overall this was a very well written film with a deep plot.

reply

I know like seriously, the rest of the film is on the level of the first two Godfathers, that one scene is just so out of place for such a gritty and down to Earth film.

reply

I know what you mean. Its why I prefer this gritty one over The French Connection

reply

It’s a good slasher/action flick. Yes, Stallone ended up cutting like 50 minutes from the theatricall cut - it gave us much more info on the group of killers and more graphic kills. I would love to see it

reply

Cutting the movie allowed it to play more times per day, hence, to sell more tickets. Sly cut it for commerce, not for art.

Geez, I like the guy.

reply

It's a Bad film saved by its cheesy premise, thus it's so Bad that it's Good. Still, it's got nothing on Samurai Cop.

Cool poster. Bad film

Not a great movie.

Though it has some good chase scenes, but most of Stallones dialogue, particularly his quips when offing bad guys, was cheesy and embarrassing even back then.

And the society of killers, banging hammers together and chanting...its never clear what their motivation is.

However I did like the Dirty Harry references, with Andrew Robinson and Reni Santoni in the cast.
