"MCU" refers to the specific continuity started with the Iron Man movie in 2008. No Marvel movies before that count as part of the MCU, nor do the X-Men movies that have been released during the run of the MCU. The Howard the Duck movie is not part of the MCU continuity.

Interesting , but whats the point of the MCU?

so the superheroes can be in the same universe and then turn up in each others films?
did that happen in ironman?

Pretty much. This is why Tony Stark/Iron Man from the 2008 movie made constant appearances in the subsequent movies, along with various other crossovers.
