It's just a silly 80s movie from the same era that gave us other crazy fantasy stuff like The Golden Child and Big Trouble in Little China.

It's terrible. Unwatchable terrible, not even amusingly terrible.

Yeah. Alas, it is bad, although I personally don't think it's any worse than, say, the 1990s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, and it at least has a brilliant John Barrie score and some interesting, if not always entirely successful, special effects. It doesn't remotely work, but as far as big budget travesties go, at least it's a vaguely interesting one rather than a completely boring one. Also, it's got a great promotional poster.
