who liked this movie?

this was one of the worst movies i have ever seen. Anyone who thought it was really good, please tell me why.

reply

This was one of my favourite movie of all times.

I swear - you young ones don't get it at all. When Top Gun & Iron Eagle etc came out, we were in our early teens. These were cutting edge fighter plane movies. These movies were released not that long after "VHS Video" were even bought into existence!!!! You guys are just silly foolish snobs who are spoilt with modern day production. Don't forget, that if these movies were made now, they'd be made with crappy CGI. You WILL NEVER, EVER see footage like that again. The dogfights look impressive even today.. Imagine how it looked 20 years ago!!

OF COURSE This movie was ultra cheesy and ultra unrealistic, but at the time it was pure gold and we loved it. SO YOU CAN SERIOUSLY FK OFF. You ignorant spoilt brats.

I agree people here shouldn't put down a movie for being fictitious. It has a flavor not seen today.

reply

Any idiot that looks back on this movie and now suddenly believes it's supposed to be Oscar worthy is an imbecile.

Christ, I've never seen so many sissy la las that complain about movies like some of you people.

i first watched this movie when i was very young and i loved it but only because i was into aircraft in a big way and the f16 happened to be my favourite plane, but as ive grown older i wouldnt even give it the time of day it is so crap and cheesy its unbelievable........but the f16's are still awesome to this day

does anyone remember the line that david suchet says when he is trying to kill doug whilst they are in a dog fight i think it was its gotta be one of the worst line ever it was " you are a dead man , do you know that " i mean come on thats just terrible and david suchet is a great english actor

Victims...........arent we all.

reply

agree that david suchet is a great (and under valued) actor, but even they occasionally star in flops. tom hanks in you've got mail, michael caine in miss congeniality etc

their choices were probably worse though seeing they were already regarded as great actors when they decided to play in those shockers. suchet was still a nobody at the time of iron eagle, an action movie would've given him more exposure. sadly he was typecast in many such stereotypical roles in future films, even more serious ones like where he was a middle eastern hijacker, forgot the name of the movie, with kurt russell in it too i think.

and louis gosset jr. is a great actor too, though he didn't seem to take this role too seriously, he probably had a ball making it.

gedrick was just as poor as everyone else, and too bad for him he never became nor a respected serious actor nor a big action hero.

gedrick's gf who's real name i forgot is smoking. 80's chicks are bum ugly for today's standards but she was HOT!!. and i just saw some pics of what she looks like today and stil HOT!! she made be in her 40's now and 16 yrs older than me but i def hit it!!

reply

@ OP...

it's not that bad, but it's not great either and it's sorta a little cheesy but i think for a 'tv movie' it's not bad.

overall i give it a 6/10 (no less than a 5/10 for sure) but no higher for sure.... and in general i need to give a movie a 7 or higher to really like so a 6 aint that great but i have seen much worse ;)

p.s. someone said, "80s chicks are bum ugly compared to today's standards." ... i disagree! , cause even though there's a lot of good looking girls today there was also a lot of good ones back then ;) ... and another thing i appreciate about the 60's/70's/80's (that you dont see anymore ;( ) is that you can tell those generations apart from the "1990's to date" which all looks about the same for the most part.

This is one of the crappiest flying movies ever done. One guy mentioned switching between the 2 seat and one seat F-16s. No one mentioned the Kfirs(Migs) that turned into Skyhawks on a couple of occasions.
And the ridiculous race at the beginning of the movie between the Cessna and Motorcycle. What a crock that was. The dialog was pure "gag me" asinine. Let's see, out hero's engine blew up because the bad guy "adjusted his oil filler cap"? Come on, The adjustment is the cap is "on or off", If it comes off you get oil all over your wind screen, no smoking out the bottom with the oil pressure dropping. The line that Chappy said richening the mixture so something "wouldn't stall." I don't know whether he as talking about the engine or the airplane. And when the kid tried to land the plane, why didn't he stay on the road? That whole scene with the plane and the bike was shot at maybe 50mph. It was an easy deal to land on the road and stay there without going through the motions of crashing out in the weeds. Whoever wrote this script obviously knew absolutely nothing about airplanes, flying, or the military.
It seems like everyone on the base knew this kid. How the hell did he get into the F-16 to fly the mission in the first place? The plane captain probably would would have known him. But in this movie there was never any ground crew around to strap them in and start the engine, etc.
And that godawful text writer thingy on the panel. If you waited for that thing to inform you about anything, you were a dead man. That thing was too slow to be in a SPAD. Not to mention the fact that you should be looking outside to see what the enemy is doing rather than staring at the panel. Warnings in real life are audible with flashing lights.
I have a collection of over 160 flying movies from 1927's "Wings" to "Flyboys" and I can guarantee you this movie sucked in 1987 and still is one of the cheesiest out there. I would have trouble rating it as a 2. And I'm pretty sure that "Top Gun" predated this thing in its attempt to be one of the worst flying movies ever. "Iron Eagle" beat it out, though.

It may be cheesy but it is still a awesome movie. It was made in the 80's, give it a some credit. I love Airplanes so just watching the F16's is pretty cool.

reply

Iron Eagle is a fun cheesy 80s air force/jet fighting action film, nothing special.

reply

When someone says a movie like this is "the Worst Movie they have ever seen". That just tells me you haven't seen enough movies. This a little cheesy 80's romp. But there is a hell of a lot worse movies than this.

reply

I agree 100%. All you have to do is look at movies with ratings below 3 on IMDB. You'll see something that is truly awful.

Most action movies don't do well over time, because special effects look so terrible compared to modern day. In 30 years, the cheesy action movies from today will likely seem bad.

reply

Watched it at least 20 - 30 times as a 12 year old. Then I got top Gun on VHS for Christmas. I saw this on TV a couple years ago and couldn't believe how bad it was. I loved it as a kid.

reply

its fun action packed and cheesy 3 thing I love in an 80s action filmī‚„
