Barnes is a soldier, period.
He didn't fail his platoon when they got wiped out. It's insane to even think that they "won" that battle. He's a warrior, and his job is to kill the enemy.
Talk all the smack you want about "he failed in his role" - I'd take a company full of Barnes type soldiers over anything else anyday.
I detest Barnes because he seems to enjoy it all.
While he probably hates where he is in the world, he nevertheless seems to relish the opportunity.
Meanwhile, Elias is the true soldier, with the same exact predicament & resume as Barnes, only he respects his fellow solider & the cause.
