There's no way Bogamil would be friends with Axel

Bogamil was a commanding officer in the BHPD, and clearly Middle Class

Axel was a foul mouthed jerk from out of town

reply

Bogamil may not like Axel's methods or his irreverence, but he isn't Axel's commanding officer so he doesn't make Axel his problem. He recognizes & respects Axel's talent and deduction capabilities phenomenally, proving successful when Axel successfully nailed Maitland to a wall, while everyone completely underestimated his astounding street smart deductions in Detroit & Beverly Hills. Bogamil might wish his own detectives were that good, but unfortunately they don't develop it unless they deal with the average small time street criminals and thugs around the clock, going toe to toe with them, since Beverly Hills is a high class area unlike Detroit. Axel on the other hand learned to respect Bogamil as an authority figure and an intelligent street smart detective, basically like him just more straight laced. They became friends as a result.

I remember Leonard Maltin in his review complained that all credibility was thrown out the window when we see Ronny Cox discussing with Eddie Murphy a fishing trip over the phone. The Captain Bogomil and Axel Foley from the first movie, while they may have earned each other's grudging respect at the end, wouldn't have acted like that towards each other. And they even had Bogomil's daughter treat Axel like he was a lifelong friend of the family.

While I hate reviewers in general, I always kind of like Maltin. But -

We don't know what happened in the intervening year(s) between the first film and the second. Certainly the chief of police was different, so *some* time had at least passed. The new chief didn't seem like a newbie, so I'm guessing several years had passed at least - plenty of time for Axel and Bogomil to become not only friends, but close friends.

Since a strong bond between them wasn't a bit necessary to carry the plot, picking on Alex and Bogomil's friendship is a non-starter for me.

exactly, i didn't know it was such a common opinion and others had picked up on this, now that scene will look even more ridiculous in the future, i too always thought the boss returning in this comes off as a bit overly friendly after how he was in the first movie, that sort of sets up for him being shot, following the same pattern from what happened to eddie's friend in beverly hills cop 1, the hanging from a moving truck is also repeated, and once again stepping into a strip joint, the dialogue from his detroit boss is the best, i keep hearing praise over dean stockwell, yet i've only seen him in one decent movie "paris, texas" (1984), here he plays a smaller part as a wuss who, spoiler, gets it, the rude guy in the bar towards the woman was a bit much, this must have been a real early appearance for chris rock, what was he in that scene, 12? eddie looks slicker in this than the first, but he had really changed by the third movie, that's the thing about eddie murphy's career, he played these cool guys early on then turned slicker and more macho as the movies continued, the 48hrs movies for example, the soundtrack here is weaker than the rich first one blasting out one cool tune after another, i don't know if it's this or the third, but i tuned into one of these and it sounded a bit like the famous james bond theme in that, the violence has increased and the comedy decreased, the first movie is a fun enjoyable watch, i can't say the same about this, the third i usually don't even tune into so i don't know which of the two sequels is more violent, but i remember that opens up quite brutal.

no one to take your spot,
on a list of quality you checked every box,
strongest elements on high,
since you left earth is a cold rock white,
as the old train im on goin off the line,
moon fallin from sky ship sinkin down,
found a harbour in your smile,
now the world has turned its cheer upside down,
shook all the fun out you took the magic and left town.

Although hard to believe, 3 years had passed between movies.

In my life I've become friends with people who were once anything but.

It can happen.

And Eddie is charming, so just like charming over the American people with his talents, why not a police officer?

Plus being super professional at work doesn't mean you're like that outside of work.

a fishing trip can change a lot

It also seemed like they may have put that in for people who didn't have a chance to see the first movie. Therefore, you wouldn't (if you had no clue about Axel and Bogomil's backstory and their relationship going in) would more easily understand why Axel had to go back to Beverly Hills to investigate Bogomil's attack.

You just don't like white people having non white friends. Fucking liberals.
