Overrated
A decent MOW trumped up to become one of the worst films to ever win the best picture oscar. Overacting, and a chore to sit through. Pretentious.

you know u may have a point as even though i like most people and critics love this movie there is an argument that it has a fundamental flaw, which is, erm, ..... ray babbit is incapable of developing a relationship. This means that the bulk of the movie which is spent on the road with the two guys with Charlie TRYING VERY HARD to develop a relationship with his brother (albeit he had an ulterior motive) when clearly he is wasting his time.
In the end, Raymond (even if he doesn't know it) had a solid relationship with his brother Charlie and vice versa of being on the road for a week.

I disagree with the notion that Ray is incapable of developing a relationship. He may not be able to develop a traditional brotherly relationship with Charlie, but he demonstrates that he can still grow closer to him in his own way.

There are quite a lot overrated best picture winners. Awards are rarely about merits only.
However, Rain Man isn't overrated and deserved the Academy Award more than the other contenders.

shareit's rated 8, when it only worth 2. tom cruse is a terrible actor when a stupid director let him act, he's a pretty face who should only read his lines without even trying to act, because he can't act crap.

Clearly you haven't seen Around the World in 80 Days, Cimarron or Out of Africa. In fact, of all the movies that won best picture in the 80's, I think Rain Man is the best one. share
Any movie that wins the best picture Oscar should definitely be in the IMDB top 250. Why it isn´t amazes the heck out of me!
