Why does film begin with Iko Iko

I'm just rewatching this for like the 10th time, and it's a true classic. I just have one gripe: why that dumb song Iko Iko to begin the film with?! I know, it's up to the director's discretion to select the soundtrack (I prefer completely original soundtracks), but I just think it's a poor selection of song. Anyone agree?

It is a slightly odd choice but that's what makes it memorable. I think Hans Zimmer probably chose it as he's the composer.

and what about that stupid ass song when they went to Vegas. The woman is just hollering and screaming like a fucking...well.

reply

That was Hans Zimmer who did the original score. Just filler music; his Leaving Walbrook segment is better.

I wanna punch that woman in the face.

agree..... sounds stupid AF

Possibly in part because the studio does not have to pay any royalty fees to the writer (who is unknown). It is in sphere of public domain, like Ba Ba Black sheep.

I like the song.

It’s a brilliantly bizarre choice. All of the needle drops in Rain Man are awesome, and that’s before we even discuss Hans Zimmer’s incredible score.
