Why does this get so much love?

I was looking forward to seeing this, as I loved the first. But...dear God, what a waste this film was. Everything that was great about the first is gone and replaced by gore for the sake of gore. Don't get me wrong, I love slasher flicks but this struck me as just one of the lower kinds. I wasn't impressed at all, and being very disappointed I come here like I usually do. And...it seems like everyone on this board just loves it so much. Why!?

Well that's partly why Return to Sleepaway Camp ignored the 2 sequels and followed directly after the 1st so it's up to fans which one they consider the true sequel. Personally I don't like parts 2 and 3 and consider Return to Sleepaway Camp the true sequel.

It wasn't great but it definitely was the best sequel.

i liked the first 3 films in the series. here in part 2 try not to take it serious and enjoy Angela killing other campers. i LOVED what she did to tc

The Sleepaway Camp sequels are some of the worst films ever made. Everything about these sequels are just horrible, with nothing to justify them. I love the first one though, especially the ending. And Felissa Rose was also a far superior Angela. Pamela Springsteen was just terrible. And I know the sequels are supposed to be campy fun, but seriously... NOTHING was funny! Just stupid.

But then again, that's just me. As I said, I'll always love the first, but II and III are best left alone, unless you've got nothing better to do.

The first Sleepaway Camp gets so many accolades because of its ending. Parts II and III are obviously made just for the fun of it. Alot of people have to really understand in the 1980s there was always some camp slasher Jason/Freddy knockoff being released between the sequels of those movies and alot of these first time producers and directors eventually stopped trying to compete and just had plain fun with the genre.

Why compare the first and 2nd? They make the perfect pair. Both are completely different, and both fantastic in different ways.

Maybe it's just the amount of boobs on display. *shrug* In the first one, there's even a girl who gets it in the shower, and nothing was shown. In the second one, poor Valerie Hartman spent half of her screen time topless. That might amount to a few extra points from some viewers!

Assuming it's more than that... they are very different movies. One thing I didn't like about the first one was how the killer seemed to sort of teleport all over the place and have a wild array of crazy killing techniques all ready to go, somehow being in position for each one. Impressive for a youngster! Yeah, it's a slasher movie, so that's allowed... but in the second one, the killer seemed to be "earning it" by having to put in some effort to dispose of people, and all the kills seemed plausible for one person to be doing as shown. Personally, I like that.

Well, on to #3, I guess....

Well Its just a fun, silly movie that doesnt take itself seriously :) Personally I didnt like the original at all. I thought it was quite a bore, even though the ending was shocking/creepy. I think SC 2, and SC 3 are far superior, but thats just me.
Agree with this 110%.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

Sleepaway Camp 3 is not that great of a movie. It's actually a bit dull tbh.
The first 2 are both great. I even like Return To Sleepaway Camp.

reply

I thought Sleepaway Camp 3 was really good, thought it was better then the 2nd film, which had kind of a lame ending and dissapointing finale.

reply

Bad acting. Pamela should stick to photographing her brother's concerts.

I love the first two movies equally. Even though part 2 went for a more dark humored approach, almost making itself a parody of part 1, it still continued from the original film's storyline, just way different in tone. I think part 1 and 2 go great together, and them being so different from each other is actually a plus.

reply

I love 'Sleep Away Camp 2'. I love everything about it, but especially the Angela character. I first watched it expecting another bland slasher movie and instead I felt like I'd discovered something special.

Now I saw 2 before I saw the original, so that could have colored my perception and it definitely spoiled the end for me, but the first "Sleep Away Camp" was just an average slasher movie. Like on par with "My Bloody Valentine". If I'd seen it first I may never have bothered watching the sequels.

reply

Yeah I liked this better than the first.

reply

exactly this is such a special film. the funny quips angela makes after killing someone is so good and so, odd in some way. it's weird, it seems so out of place but it somehow works. you know what i mean?

reply

It's an acceptable comedy if you watch it in the right mentality. You cannot see it with the first movie on your mind. Personally, I think this one has no business being a Sleepaway Camp sequel. It could be a completely independent slasher-spoof and that would make more sense.

reply

I think it works great with the first movie. The first one has such a weird edge to it that the dark-humor of part 2 almost seems appropriate. They go great together. Just my opinion though.

reply

I prefer the original but this was fun in a camp cheesy way. Bad dialogue, hilarious death scenes, boobs aplenty, king size mullets and the happy camper song. Gold 😂

The actress who played Angela made this one challenging to sit through to the end, bad bad acting.
