Why didn't Steve Urkel skip grades?

He's a genius who speaks multiple languages and created many inventions. His IQ is 196, higher than Einstein. Why didn't he skip grades?

reply

Well, it is revealed in one episode that he took the same Chemistry class as Eddy and Waldo.
They were usually two grades ahead of him.

But I don't believe that skipping grades is a good thing anyway.
Thus, it is fine with me that Steve simply was the smartest student in his class and didn't rush things.

How bad Eddy and especially Waldo handled school usually, I would rather think they repeated classes.

Steve was obsessed with Laura. No way was he gonna agree to not be able to take classes with her.

reply

Staying with Laura.

Oh, I was curious about that, particularly why a kid with his intelligence was wasting his time in a public school, surrounded by kids of mediocre intelligence. It's for two reasons:

1.) He only ever wanted to go to a school where Laura was attending, and she just happened to be attending a normal, public high school in the area.

2.) He mentioned in one of the episodes that he had attempted to go to a private school, but they wouldn't let him in. (My theory is, they were terrified of him destroying the school due his clumsiness and antics with scientific inventions, and I have no doubt all the schools, public, private, and elite, all had communicated with each other about Steve, and with the exception of Laura's school, they had probably put him on a blacklist).
