Quite a Boring Show

Once you got past the initial excitement of him travelling to a new time and finding out who he was, it was usually some tedious soap opera plot that involved a convenient outcome.

You could have just watched a dull show set in the 50s to be honest.

reply

You don't care about human interest stories. Too bad.

reply

That would have made for an interesting crossover episode if he appeared on a dull 50s show. Sam jumps into the body of Mrs. Cleaver from "Leave It To Beaver".

Mr. Cleaver: "Just a heads up, I'm going to be extra hard on The Beaver tonight."
Sam as Mrs. Cleaver: "Oh boy."

reply

A lot of knidiots consider this the best Science Fiction show ever, and it really wasn’t science fiction. Yeah, sure, he time traveled but THAT was it. The rest of most of the episodes were just…boring non-scifi horsecrap.

reply

Exactly.

reply

"and it really wasn’t science fiction"

You're literally wrong.

reply

No, I am not. Fiction yes, outside of the time travel there was no science fiction. Him becoming a cheerleader in Tulsa or a truckdriver in Colorado with normal everyday lives is not science fiction.

I can only hope the new series they announced will be better with the science fiction.

reply

I don't give a flying fuck what you think about the show, but it's science fiction. You're 100% wrong.

reply

Then it’s very, very weak science fiction.

reply

"If you take away all the science fiction there's literally no science fiction in this show." ... 🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🤦🏿‍♂️

reply

...really wasn’t science fiction. Yeah, sure, he time traveled...

😂

We have a winner!

Thats why Farscape was great, it was a true Sci-Fi show with alien lifeforms and cultures far removed from earth. Only human on the show was the main protagonist!

Stargate Sg-1 was awesome as well, but certainly more grounded as it followed The Air Force fighting alien races and exploring. Yet they always returned to the base on Earth.

Theres a spectrum of Sci-Fi shows where its wayyyy out there into alien "what if" territory and then to shows like this where Science Fiction plays a small part to merely setup the main bulk of human drama that we all can experience.

Quantum Leap was Sci-Fi/ Drama that more heavily leaned into the drama of the human condition.

I understand what you mean though.

reply

"I'm retarded!?!?"

reply

Lol. I have that GIF saved

reply

LOL! I can hear his voice as I read those words. Not one of the show's better moments.

reply

...but it was a very special episode...in more than one sense of the term!

reply

If you find examinations of the human condition dull, then you are destined for a dull life.

reply

Yes, I find tedious stories set in the '50s and '60s about a housewife who feels trapped by her marriage... unutterably boring.

reply

Not all series require car chases and explosions.

reply

I thought this show was really hit-or-miss. I liked the episodes that were about small human drama without being too serious. Then there were A LOT of episodes that were overtly preachy or ridiculously out-there. The latter were also usually boring.

reply

It was good at the time - of course you had to wait a whole week for the next episode and the occasional dud or too preachy show was forgotten by then. Probably too slow moving for binge watching these impatient days.
