Tower sex scene: hot or not?

I was pretty young when I first saw this scene, and I think it was the first time I felt a bit strange...you know!!!
Joe was definately a gorgeous guy, Wynona Ryder I don't care about, but it got pretty steamy up there!
Damned drowning kid!!! Did you like it or is it just another sex scene to you?

I always had a crush on Winona Ryder, I dont remember if I had this crush on her since I was a boy (i am 30 now and I still have this crush on her). But I saw this movie only today, and I fell in love with her again (cant say this to my Girlfriend ;) ).

But to answer your question, I didnt think the scene was hot, because the moment the scene started, The moment Katie started walking on the edge of the river, I knew something bad was about to happen...and I felt bad for Charlotte, as it became very obvious that she is going to regret this moment for the rest of her life.
LOL...i know I am a guy...but I really thought it was not fair to her, I mean she really wanted to have sex with Joe, and she was actually having it, but her little sister is drowning at the same moment....i dunno...i think that is seriously unfair to anyone. I just could not keep my attention on the sex ....i started getting worried about what is gonna happen after that. It would have been gross if Katie had died....Char would have never ever forgiven herself...and would definitely had become a Nun.
And that would have been very depressing.

This will probably sound really strange but I think the moment when Joe thrusts and Charlotte lets out a yelp in pain (probably because of the unexpected pressure and/or her hymen tore) was incredibly hot.

No, statutory rape isn't a turn on for me. He was 26, she was 15.

This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here.

What was the age of consent in Massachusetts in 1963? Regardless, seeing grown men having sex with early teenage girls isn't a turn on.

I didn't think it was hot. joe had the personality of a rock and him being so much older was icky. I actually thought it was pretty awkward and fairly realistic, but no, not hot.

I just read the book and this scene was a bit more interesting in the book. For one thing, Joe is 29 in the book. Also, in the book there is more of a reason provided for Charlotte's stupid actions, (in the movie they make it seem like Charlotte is just jealous about her mother flirting with Joe so that's one of the reasons she gets drunk, dresses in her mom's clothes, and takes Kate out) in the book there is another reason. *Book Spoiler* :In the book, Charlotte's biological father has returned for a visit. He picks up Mrs. Flax and then they drive back to the house where Mrs. Flax quickly pops in and tells Charlotte that she and Charlotte's father are going out and will be back later. The father doesn't even decide to come in and say hello first. this upsets Charlotte because she has been waiting to see him since she found out he was coming (last winter, she found out that he would be stopping in the spring) and she was cleaning the house preparing for him to come in and say hi. she had prepared everything. She hasn't seen him in YEARS and all he cares about is seeing Mrs. Flax. That's when she decides to drink. Although in the book it plays out a bit differently in that Kate doesn't ask Charlotte for a sip of wine. Charlotte actually puts a table out and glasses of wine for both of them, saying she is 'celebrating Kate's Birthday.' She keeps pouring alcohol for both of them. The movie version glossed this over by making it seem like Kate had sneaked the glasses of alcohol behind Charlotte's back after she offered only a few sips, when in the book it was Charlotte who offered her all the alcohol. Then they go out to the convent. Charlotte climbs up the stairs and literally trips into Joe's lap (yeah...she's THAT drunk). The best part is when Joe asks, 'what? is that perfume? have you been drinking?' Charlotte replies, 'Kiss me and we'll both know.' then she kisses him and throws her arms around him. There's a lot more hot steamy descriptions in the book, but it would take a while to post all of it. I suggest you check out the book. Oh - and to those who say they think there is something wrong with Joe wanting to have sex with a teenage girl--there is a part of the book that tries to hint at Joe being sexually frustrated. He tells Charlotte a story about his ex-girlfriend (the one that suddenly disappeared and prompted rumors around town):they were both in their senior year of high school. They had been making out in his car and they were about to go all the way when she turned on the car light, his pants are down, and then she laughed at him. So it seems like Joe had some feelings of inadequacy.

I have read the book but it's been a long time. I do remember that Joe was a bit more fleshed out and understandable in the book than the movie. His personality (or maybe just the acting, I'm not sure which) was very wooden in the movie. It's like he was just kind of there. I didn't remember about the Charlotte and Katie part in the book until you mentioned it but yeah, they did change that quite a lot maybe so Charlotte wouldn't look so much to blame.

I just couldn't get it out of my head that he was 26 and she was 15. That was the worst part. If she were older, maybe I would have thought about the age as much.

I did not find it hot. Aside from the drowning kid, there were other things..
He was older, and never showed that he even cared about her, he was just so strangely passive.. like when she throws herself at him, he kisses her but then again, he also let her mother kiss him! And then just drove away without a word. Who does that? At that point I was beginning to wonder if he was actually mentally challenged and I somehow missed it..
Anyway, she had this crush on him and he took advantage of it. Somehow losing virginity under those circumstances wasn't appealing to me.
