Tim Burton should do a remake!

I am a huge Tim Burton fan and I think that Tim Burton should direct a remake of The Addams Family! I think he would be perfect! with his sense of style and humor in movies I think he would be a awesome choice! anyoneelse agree?

reply

Tim Burton should lay off for a while. Let people digest the films he's made this decade and then think about doing another one. Hopefully one without Depp and Helena.

Ditto.

WTF! umm NO! let people digest his films? what are you saying he sucks? and not have Depp or Helena!? are you crazy those are one of his best tag teams in his movies like before it was Depp and Winona Ryder now its Depp and Helena they have great chemistry together and thats another reason why Burtons movies are awesome because of actors like Depp, Helena, Winona etc if Burton wanted too he could finish a remake of the Addams family in a year or 2

reply

Not everyone loves him as much as you do, dear.

I think that would be a terrible idea, I like one or two of his movies but they're mostly just faddy teen stuff. The Addams family movies are great as they are, the perfect balance between spooky and funny, I don't see what Burton could add there really. And I love Helena Bonham Carter (outside of her burton movies) but she'd be a terrible morticia!

If you LOVE atheism and are 100% proud of it copy this and make it your signature!

reply

.....im sorry. i don't even care about this discussion that much, but....how do you love athetism? theres nothing about it to love...its a belief about nothing...just saying. (commenting on your stupid saying at the bottom)

OH, and TIM BURTON ROCKS. But I don't know about Helena Bonham Carter as Morticia. As much as I love her I don't think she fits the character. Although I see her much more as a Morticia then Depp as any character in the film.

how old are you anyway. are you a child. why are you making such stupid and inane comments and then excessively fangirling about tim burton without any real, solid arguments? You are adding nothing to the discussion

reply

its a belief about nothing...just saying.

Believing in yourself, instead of depending on a "higher power".

reply

I personally think tim burton is overrated.. all his movies have the same atmosphere.. sorry.. this is just my opinion.. an adams family remake by him would feel the same as every other film he has done.. too contrived.

reply

I have to disagree. Since I was a child I loved Burton. Starting with his directorial debut, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, obsessing over Beetlejuice and Batman (+Batman Returns) and Edward Scissorhands.

But since Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, his films have been saturated with Depp and Bonham-Carter ad nauseam. I wouldn't mind if Depp's "eccentric" characters differed, but they don't.

I want 1985-1990 Burton to remake this... Not today's Burton.

I wouldn't say lay off completely, but go back to the darker stuff, as oppose to his recent cinematographic style (Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland). It seems he's been definitely getting weird, but is also getting less sinister (things like The Hessian in Sleepy Hollow or the monkey's from Planet of the Apes. If he wants to have an air of goofiness, I think he should do it how he did it with the Joker in Batman.

You must have missed that he directed Sweeney Todd in between those movies.

omg they would make the perfect Gomez and Morticia.

reply

I wouldn't say a remake, but he should definitely continue the series. I would really like that. And, as I mentioned in another post on this topic, would give him an opportunity to make a film that he could be darker with, in a more serious way.

No I agree, Tim Burton should do a remake. I think Depp would be interesting as Gomez or some little known actor who could do a great job in the role. It is all about charisma with Gomez and that is why my favorite bad dude Tim Curry didn't do squat in the Gomez role when he had it. But Anjelica Huston was the best Morticia ever and yes I have watched the T.V. shows and the first two movies and parts of the third movie, The Addams Family Reunion, where miss gag me, Darryl Hannah was Mortica. Even Carolyn Jones did an all right job as Morticia but no one came close to Anjelica's performance as Mortica.

Why have I said that? Because if Burton puts Helena Bonham Carter in the role, it will ruin the role of Mortica. In other words, it would be a sad travesity.

reply

Erm, no. That is all.

Also, Tim hasn't made anything decent since Mars Attacks.

reply

Tim Burton is making a remake or sequel and it will be in 3D ;p

reply

leave my addams family movies alone and for god sakes keep his dumb wife away from them she is AWFUL in just about everything but fight club she plays the same character everytime

reply

You've obviously never seen Bonham-Carter's more serious roles and drama movies, otherwise you wouldn't talk such tosh. And she is great in the Tim Burton movies too!

reply

You should see her earlier films.

We'd be left with a wannabe-suave mix of Jack Sparrow and Sweeney Todd. Non merci.

Burton is brilliant, but you don't mess with perfection

" Tim Burton has found a new 3D project. He will direct a stop-motion animated film based on Charles Addams' original ghoulish cartoon drawings of The Addams Family. "

this could be awesome, the TV show was great, the first movie was amazing, the 2nd movie was kinda ok.... I seem to remember a short lived TV series remake in the 90s, I also remember a hanna barbera version in the late 70s too.

I remember Reading that Tim Burton was the first choice for the 1991 film, but in hindsight, Barry Sonnenfeld was the better choice. I always felt that the Tim Burton of that era was all style and no substance.... the 2010 Burton could be great, IF theres a good enough script. Im probably in the minority in thinking that while "Nightmare before Christmas" was visually stunning the 3rd act of the script was limp and didnt really resolve anything.... it didnt go anywhere....

The best part of the 91 Addams Family film was the passion the perfectly cast actors brought to their roles... the second best part of it was that the script gave us a group of weirdos that actually made up a more loving and supportive family than most...... the third best part was what most people remember- the macabre house that was both fantastic and believable.

It would be a neat gesture to have as many original voices as possible, christina ricci, christopher lloyd, angelica houston... we lost Raul Julia but John Astin from the 60s show is still around...

reply

perhaps John Astin could voice "Grandpapa" Addams, like he did in the show from the 90s?
logically, this would mean than Sean Astin should voice Gomez...

I think it would be perfect too if Tim Burton did the remake. His style is perfect for Addams Family. And oh the joy, they are making another Addams Family movie to be released in 2014 according to IMDB. :D

I don't think Depp or Helena would be the right choices for any of the Addams family members though. I thought the previous two movies had a perfect cast and he should take casting ideas from them.

Whoever directs this upcoming movie, I just hope they do a good job at it.

reply

He is indeed making a remake. Details here:

More: Underlying rights to Addams' drawings. Illumination's Chris Meledandri will produce. Tee and Charles Addams Foundation's Kevin Miserocchi will executive produce. Tim Burton will direct. No screenwriter is attached yet. This will be a 3D stop-motion animation film.

Actually I think the movie's fine the way it is...it's got just the right amount of eerie-ness to it.

how come tim burton can't do anything original anymore?

reply

when i heard tim burton was doin a new addams family film i thought that could work, but now i see its animation so that sucks. an animated tv series would be cool but as they are doin it as a film it would have been much better as an actual film with real people although the casting would be sooo important.and deffinatly not a remake.

reply

I thought it was stop motion like Corpse Bride & that was a good film.

Perhaps I am wrong, but... Though he is often a Producer and Writer, Burton is primarily known as a Director, yes? Sure, he directs many remakes/reboots/quasi-sequels, but since when is a director supposed to be responsible for "original material"?
Peter Jackson has primarily been known for film versions of LOTR--- three novels, not his material--- and King Kong--- a flat-out remake. But, PJ brought his own directorial style to the projects, which is his only job. Burton does the same. One knows it is a Burton film, not by the screenplay (which is less often his product), but by the directorial/procuction style. Off the top of my head, I think he wrote TheNightmareBeforeChristmas, CorpseBride, and BigFish, which is more than many directors write.

It's Gwyneth's head in the box.
