But there first was a US film titled Brain Dead and it is a doozy in its own right. The only film to have both Bills (Pullman and Paxton)and it was written by Charles (Twilight Zone) Beaumont.
Pretty damn weird to compare 2 VERY different movies, one being straight, serious horror and the other being comedy/horror(and over the top comedy at that). Even weirder since the serious horror flick has a sequel which IS also a comedic horror flick, woulda made FARR more sense to make it a vote involving Evil Dead 2.
Gotta go with Dead Alive, as it is some of the most fun I've ever had watching a movie.
If we were voting strictly on genre, as in which is the better horror movie, Evil Dead HAS t win.
I have a feeling the OP meant evil dead in general rather than specifically the first film, because if not you are correct it doesn't make sense. I'm just going to assume that this is evil dead 2 vs dead alive, in which case I have to give it to dead alive. But even evil dead vs dead alive I still think dead live is better. From a moralistic standpoint (I think that horror movies are usually best with some morals) Dead Alive has a bit more to say than either of the evil dead movies, and even though the fear in Dead Alive is more of a "what gross thing am I going to be forced to see next" type, it's still scarier :)
Considering the scare factor alone, Evil Dead was much much much more scarier for me than Dead Alive. Yes, DA was kind of gross (and funny); but never THAT scary (for me). Saw both movies when I was in the 5th grade or something :D and thanks to Evil Dead, I didn't went out after 6 PM for 2-3 months after watching it.

ED was great, but wouldn't be as popular if it weren't made into a trilogy. DA just nailed it for me, as a stand alone picture it didn't leave me wanting anything more than originally presented.
Well that settles it. At 25 votes a piece, they're both equally awesome. I couldn't vote anyways. It'd be like voting which of your children you love the most.
