So happy I finally saw this!

It’s everything I wished Evil Dead would be and even more. I laughed quite a bit and the gore was quite overwhelming! There were so many memorable scenes; one of my fav being the “divine intervention”. With its impressive amount of different elements (the blender, the light bulb, the lawnmower, the hatchet…) it’s definitely worth seeing again and again. 8.5/10

Honestly, I didn't find it very funny. I thought the gore was excessive. I don't think I would ever want to watch this again. 5/10 from me.

Have you seen Bad Taste (1987)? I think it's the best of Peter Jacksons gory horror-comedies.

It's not as gory as this film but I think the humor lands way better. It cracks me up.

reply

I haven't seen Bad Taste yet, but I might eventually check it out.

YOU REALLY SHOULD HAVE SEEN THE PETER JACKSON GORE COMEDIES AS A TEENAGER...I'M TRYING TO IMAGINE HOW I WOULD VIEW THEM IF I SAW THEM FOR THE FIRST TIME AS AN ADULT...DEAD ALIVE IS ON MY TOP 100...BAD TASTE WOULD BE ON MY TOP 200 IF I MADE THE LIST...BUT A LOT OF WHAT MAKES MOVIES ETERNAL TO ME IS NOSTALGIA...I HAVE A HARD TIME CONNECTING WITH NEW FILMS THE SAME WAY AS AN ADULT.

reply

I might have felt differently about the film if I had seen it at a younger age.

Nostalgia can be a huge factor for me too as I am an emotional and nostalgic person but Dead Alive appeals to my taste and became an instant favourite horror of mine when I first watched it 3 years ago.

THAT IS AWESOME...I SHOWED IT TO ALI A FEW YEARS AGO....IT HOLDS UP VERY WELL.

reply

At least you gave it a try. I enjoy it. Be sure to avoid Bad Taste if you didn't care for this one. It's similar humor with gore. I'm amazed it was done with such limited supplies and such a small budget. But it's may not be one you'd enjoy.

I LOVE THE BITS ABOUT HIM COOKING THE EFFECTS IN HIS MOM'S OVEN.

reply

Ever wo der if his dad mistook one of the effects as a snack? It's a funny thought.

reply

I know this post was 3 years ago, but what took you so long?

reply

I only developed a strong passion for horror movies about 10 years ago. Didn’t care much before that.
