best TV series of all time?

I haven't seen The Wire yet, but based on what I've heard, I tend to think it's the only serious competition to Homicide. The Sopranos was brilliant in its way, but IMO got stale after about three seasons, and went on way too long to be plausible.

Other suggestions?

reply

No, but it's pretty good.

Breaking Bad
The Wire
Homeland
Masters of Sex
Original Law and Order
Monk
Mission Impossible
X Files

Haven't seen 'Homicide, Life........'

Boomtown, I still don't understand how such a quality show was cancelled. Excellent ensemble cast, interesting writing, and consistency.

Boomtime was really great, and was too short-lived for its quality.

However, I think Homicide is the best series ever, close competitor would be Mad Men, in my opinion.

In order of merit:

Breaking Bad
Six Feet Under
House of Cards (U.S. version)
The Sopranos
Morse
Prime Suspect
Monk
Twin Peaks
New Tricks
Columbo
...
Homicide

I'd wager that any such list that does not include Breaking Bad was compiled by someone who has never seen Breaking Bad.
HLOTS is certainly a good addition to any top ten best shows list.

Sorry for the late reply, but The Wire is truly the best show in terms of crime dramas. Came to Canada in 1973 so I can't comment on The Prisoner--will have to see where I can watch this.

Loved Homicide however, The Wire is better all the way through until its end.
