How can you do something so insensitive? I'm sure most cast and crew read their own message boards and those of the movies they are involved with. Would you say these things to her face? I'm glad that your account was deleted, and I hope this was the reason. Please have some feelings, people!

Right.

I agree. She isn't ugly. Just homely. There's enough pretty black girls, I think for them to have chosen differently. Maybe not enough acting though.

I might be in the minority, but I think Taral Hicks is GORGEOUS! So glad they picked her for this role, especially since she's darker skinned. You don't see that too often in films these days (that feature Black actresses).

herown - Count me in the minority with you. Love her looks. Like C noted, classy.

reply

Yes I agree! She was over-the-top supermodel-looking, but she wasn't ordinary either. She was beautiful and indeed classy. And my brothers swear up and down that I look like her LOL!!

I have to agree. When I was watching this movie, all I could think about was how much she reminded me of my ex. Who by the way is from the same area as Jane in the movie.

This girl was classy and just made me melt. Haha. No joke, Jane was gorgeous. I wouldn't be ashamed to kiss her in the streets like that either.

I thought she was gorgeous as well. I'm also Sicilian, and she reminded me very much of a girl I fooled around with a few months ago who moved out of state for a job.

So we're not the only ones who think she's gorgeous!

How I disagree with the subject line...FWIW, 71 year old white male saw this for the first time today in 2014 and the character Jane is beautiful, both physically and how her personality came across in the film. I fell in love with Jane. She is beautiful. How could anyone think she is not.

I thought she was gorgeous and perfect for this role.

You're not in the minority. I thought the girl was cute. She had very short hair. Maybe that's what turned off some of these white boys on this site. And in real life she is quite pretty.

reply

4 year old comment, but whatever.
Her hair was pretty long in the movie. Not super-long, but long enough to be tied back and still see the ponytail/bun sticking up on her head.

Are we certain that 100% of the people that don't find her attractive are white, though?
(Rhetorical question, I know it's impossible to tell)

Maybe they didn't find her attractive because everyone has a different taste and not everyone finds the same people attractive, though.

I didn't think she was gorgeous. She wasn't hideous or anything, but she wasn't beautiful either.
Just an average, homely looking girl.

she's cute, not that good of an actress(maybe she's improved I haven't seen the movie"belly" yet) but she has a unique face. problably why she was selected for the part.

I though Taral was an angel. Beautiful face, beautiful smile. Esp. her eyes.

Agreed. Although I wasn't crazy about how she wore her hair.

reply

Yes, thats it right there. Her eyes. I mean this girl had me in a trance from the bus scene on.

reply

i agree

I loved Taral! She was so pretty in this movie. She was like an ordinary, everyday beauty. Maybe not what you would see in magazines but those everyday beauties you would see at a grocery store or in the hallways at school.

I for once was glad to see a REAL girl as the love interest in a movie. Apparently all Hollywood movies are about guys who meet a supermodel who falls for them. This one is not. Real life is not either.

Some people fall in love with and hook-up with/marry supermodels, though.
"Real life" is a LOT of things. An unlimited number of scenarios from all around the globe.

I'm sure somewhere on Earth, at some point in time, there has been a supermodel who fell in love and got married.

I was also glad to see a "real girl" play the role of Jane though. The movie would have been significantly worse had they just had Calogero fall in love with a blow-up doll, a lampshade or an alpaca or something ridiculous.

The fact that she was a human made all of the difference in both the story and the movie itself.

yeah, i always wondered what he saw in her
