Every decade has a teen hangout movie

It seems like every decade has THE teen hangout movie, usually a slice-of-life involving teenagers partying and hanging out with friends and driving around town:

1970s = American Graffiti
1980s = Fast Times at Ridgemont High
1990s = Dazed & Confused
2000s = Superbad
2010s = Everybody Wants Some

I haven't seen Everybody Wants Some yet, but I wouldn't consider Superbad a hangout movie. I could see it both ways but I think Superbad has more of a conflict driven plot. But I'm not trying to be argumentative.

All movies certainly exist in the same vein.

i agree, the 2000s hangout movie would have to be more of an ensemble cast film. there were a lot in the 90s.

reply

Yeah an ensemble cast counts for a lot.

2000s = not another teen movie?

reply

That was a spoof of John Hughes-type movies from the 80’s and 90’s. Not quite the same thing.

Dazed and Confused seems like a 70s homage to American Graffiti. There's even a "piss yellow deuce coup" roaming the streets in Dazed and Confused.
