Was Bruce nearly paralyzed in real life?

When that guy kicked him in the back of the head or spine early in the movie, is that based on facts? Most of the fight scenes were pretty cheesy. Bruce Lee was before my time, but I have seen a movie or two on TV. I also saw a few reruns of The Green Hornet.

The fight with Wolfman Jack actually happened, but he wasn’t injured. He thought the fight took too long, which is what leas to him seriously trying to expands martial arts.

Bruce seriously injury his back lifting weights. I remember hearing that he was doing good mornings, but I don’t know how reliable that info is.

What are good mornings?

It’s an exercise where you hold a barbell across your back and upper shoulders, like you would when doing squats, and then you lean forward, and basically take a bow while holding the weight. It’s a hamstring exercise, but it’s easy to see how you can hurt your back with improper form, or too much weight.

Here is a short video demonstrating them.
