I know it's never popular to speak negatively about a movie on here, but my god, after watching every other one of Tarantino's films (up to Django) and loving them, this one was pitiful.

Patricia Arquette (who plays Alabama) is just about the worst actress I have ever seen in my life. How she managed to continue her acting career after this movie is beyond me.

Anyway, the script itself is pretty good, and the rest of the cast (aside from Arquette) is outstanding. But it's really very obvious that Tarantino did not direct this film himself, because there is no way he would have let it turn out this bad.

The characters seem as if they would have been really deep and complex, but it's as if Tony Scott came and stomped on all of them to flatten them out to make it more palatable for general audiences. There's no mystery behind the characters, no intrigue.

But dammit, I kept rooting for Alabama to get killed in any one of those shoot outs because then I wouldn't have to listen to Arquette's horrible voice anymore.

It was nice to see one of Quentin Tarantino's scripts directed by an adult, instead of the perpetual teenager that Tarantino is. Django seemed a bit like a return to the form of Pulp Fiction, but it contained all of the usual cartoon nonsense and was way over the top at times (not to mention too long). He really needs to grow up. True Romance was OK once I got past the Christian Slater factor. The final shootout went on a bit too long, but it was generally well plotted. The best scene was the one with Christopher Walken.

I met Tarantino in an off-beat toy store years ago. He's a nice, cool guy. He bought a vintage Charlie's Angels board game and signed an autograph for the owner. Then signed a whole bunch of things and told the owner to donate them to charity.

Anyways, True Romance is a great movie. It's not a Tarantino film. He only wrote the movie and the script was heavily altered from the original. So I don't know why people are going on and on comparing this film to other Tarantino movies. Anyways he sold this script to finance Reservoir dogs and the rest his history.

Sure you can. I rail against popular shows/movies all the time (I can't stand Walking Dead. Like me and that stupid zombie show, you are in the minority. In addition to being my all-time favorite movie, it has an IMDB rating of 8. Pretty gaudy number for a movie that wasn't just released and there is no arguing with the scoreboard.

This is my favorite movie of all time. It's beautiful: the dialogue, the memorable scenes, the characters, the utter coolness, the music score, the cameos, the action, etc. It's my favorite romantic film. Drive is right up there with it. Nothing spells romance like killing people for the ones you love.

If anything, this is Tarantino's crowning achievement, and I am thankful that he did not take the helm on this one. It is in fact one of the most underrated movies. Tony Scott did an amazing job with it. I truly feel bad for you for not seeing the beauty in this film.

patricia is very beautiful so who cares. the big issue is that slater is a greasy midget w a pathetic voice. it also had Rappaport, the ugliest 'actor' in hollywood

This is one of Tarantino's best scripts, I think, and really a truly romantic movie. Not to mention the fact that it is HANDS DOWN Tony Scott's absolute finest directorial hour. The cast is great, honestly being one of the only good Christian Slater performances, not to mention the small but extremely memorable roles of Gary Oldman, Walken, Hopper, Brad Pitt, and James Gandolfini. Plus this movie also supports the theory that Kevin Corrigan is in just about everything, if only for a bit.

Honey, I'm so proud of you. I watched you very closely! You didn't screw up once!

Lol it's funny how so many people like and dislike the same movie. I personally love this movie and watch it a few times a year, so many great actors in it and the more messed up the movie is the better. Love the ending.

I have to disagree with pretty much all of that (aside from the script comment). I simply adore this movie, and never tire of watching it. One of the greatest love stories ever told :)

Anyone who speaks negatively about this movie is crazy, yo. I agree that Patricia left a lot to be desired ... but the plot, action, characterization .... really everything in this movie as a hit. There's a reason this movie is a cult classic. If you haven't seen it ... see it. If you've seen it once .. I'm sure you will see it again. This movie was A-OK in my book. Check it out.
