I didn't laugh once...

I don't think I ever put a movie on were I was so keen to laugh, I saw the reviews and the rating on imdb, and straight away went "this will be awesome"

I really tried so fu*king hard to like it but I just sat there and watched it had a little giggle at a couple of parts but most the time I felt like falling asleep...

Do you have to be smoking pot to find it funny or what? I am missing something for sure cause this does not make sense...
I can like almost all movies for a reason, I always go in open hearted and try and understand why the director made the movie and its strong suits but I really just don't understand haha..

And It's the same for allot of his other movies ( dogma, clerks 2, cop out)haven't seen chasing Amy or mallrats yet. I didn't mind Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and red state was great (not a comedy, but still great)

Safe to say I'm not a fan, But I want to be.

So..... Am I missing something or maybe I will just never get it.

As someone else said, humor is subjective. I found a lot of it funny because I worked in a video store so I could relate to part of it, especially the dumb customer question montage.

Yes you are missing a sense of humor and come of as a smart arse *beep* :)

ok

I would assume most of the high ratings come from older people who either saw this in theaters or owned it as early as possible, grew up in that time , and have re watched it many times over the last 22 years. 22 years, subjectivity aside, that's a huge chunk in which times have changed, other things have existed, etc, so that someone who's either younger or only just watched this for the first time like in the last few years wouldn't consider it special or get it's cult praise. I assume most people who recently saw it and/or didn't like it also don't know a lot of the story about Kevin Smith , making this movie, and everything that's followed with his films, which might be a contributing factor to people that like it.

Keep in mind depending on your age you could be conditioned to the humor. This was the mid 90's. This humor was extremely raunchy and infantile for it's time. It has been done a lot in recent years. It may take away from it. It is like trying to watch the original Terminator if you are 20 years old and never seen it before. That terrible stop motion would just kill it for you.

Great Points!

Sucks to be you!

If the humor isn't for you then it isn't for you. This movie also works as a drama and a character study and that's one of the reasons why I like it. However I did not like Mallrats or Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob was funny at first but I just saw it too many times.

Just watched the film yesterday. It got a few chuckles out of me.

Overall, while it's not the greatest film ever made, it does have a pretty nice charm to it.

It's okay if you can't get into it though

So go watch Adam Sandler movies you smuck

The humor is a little bit more intelligent than your typical comedy as it doesn’t rely on grossout humor but instead very witty dialogue so therefore it’s not for everyone. Also Clerks is really more of a character study first and a comedy second (hell I’d argue that it crosses over into the drama genre)
