Rod Steiger was a terrible actor...

At least in this movie.

When people mention embarrasing performances they always mention Keanu Reeves as Jonathon Harker.

However this has to be up there for one of those completely overracted and seriously cheesy roles EVER!

I know Rod Steiger is a golden oldie so folks don't like to hear any criticism of him but jeez! He was cräp.

reply

How about that fake accent. I could have done better. But nice attempt anyways.

LOL.

Rod Steiger is a great actor who won awards for his great acting. You cannot just judge him by 'The Specialist'...

He did a decent impression of drunk Tony Montana.

"YOU BASTARDO!!!"

my fav scene in the movie

-You just can't go around killing people!
-Why?

reply

It was the same accent he used in Duck You Sucker, which was made well before the Tony Montana character existed.

reply

In Duck, You Sucker, the funniet thing Steiger said to a wimpy man after the train was held up was "Can chu make a babies"? Effin hilarious!

It definitely reminded me of Pacino's horrid accent in Scarface.

Watch In the heat of the night to see how perfectly he can perform if he wants.

Yes, he was great in that. The scene at the end where he is walking in the train station with Sidney Poitier is very well done.

reply

He was horrible in this and The Amityville Horror but not much else.

reminds me of how bad jon voight was in anaconda. just god-awful.

reply

Ditto that!!

I always found Steiger to be a bit of an overactor. I found him completely miscast as Al Capone when he played him. They were considering him for the title role in Marty. I'm so glad they got Ernest Borgnine. Borgnine was made for that role.

reply

Oh jeez yes... he obviously didn't care AT ALL. It was written in his face that he made for one purpose: money!

reply

bad impersonation of Tony Montana IMO.

"Because of my big legs and my karate, I can do the splits......Noo...Prroblemm"

reply

He was undoubtedly awful in this, the only half decent bit of acting he did was when he did that sleazy finger lick thing which looked like it was improvised. That was cringeworthy in a good way, as opposed to his work in the rest of the film.

"I told you we'd play later, you little bitch."

reply

It was cool to see him in a role like that. Wasn't perfect but it was fun to see him like that.
