Spacey's character

I have seen this movie several times, and I am curious, does Kevin Spacey's character die? It is never actually shown in the movie that he does.

reply

How long is Spacey in this movie? If you know could you kindly tell me as soon as possible? I just wanted to rent it for him (I'm asssuming he died, but I still want to see it). Thanks.

YEAH HE DIED!!! when sam was talking to Ford he said, "this virus killed casey and now my wife is dying"

I have read the book based on the movie and it definately says that he dies. Its been about 10 years since I have read it but I remember that part distinctly because I was a massive Spacey fan at the time and was really disappointed when I read it.

I just wished they had shown it. Leaving no lose end. As he was such a big part of the story to begin with. Seems silly to cut an important scene like that.

I thought he must've died cos he was so far gone with the virus. But conclusive evidence would've be appreciated.

Some people are too stupid to watch movies. Even popcorn flicks!

Of course he dies. And (in a rare case of Hollywood OVERESTIMATING the intelligence of it's audience) they clearly felt that it didn't need spelling out in big capital letters.

In a movie, a guy leaves his house. In the next scene he arrives at his office. You people are like, "Hey! How'd he get there? I didn't see him driving! I didn't see him walking! Did he teleport? Is the guy in the office a clone or something? What happened? I'm confused."

For fock's sake!

Actually it was so obvious he died, that it may as well have been spelled out.

#1 in Casey's final scene, his blood is clearly flowing from his eyes and ears just like all the other cases which were dead or on the verge of death.

#2 he has a dramatic parting dialog with Robby and even asks her to hold his hand WHEN SHE ALREADY WAS HOLDING IT. Anyone would admit that it would be pretty stupid to have such a dramatic scene like that in one moment, and then have Casey come back to life in the next.

#3 Casey is never seen again after this scene.

#4 The first person to be treated with the serum is Robby, and its implied that even she barely made it as a result.

#5 In the time between Casey's final scene and Robby's serum revival, Sam has hijacked a helicopter, landed on boat in the middle of the ocean, flown back to land, trapped a monkey, dodged two pursuing choppers, and returned to town.

#6 CASEY DIED

the end.

A spoiler warning would be nice...

Complaining about a lack of spoiler warning on a 6 year old thread - that in turn is about a 14 year old movie???

Now that's funny!!!

Pssst.... it's about a virus too. Oops!

here's a tip....don't read the board till AFTER you see the movie

reply

I have seen the movie, I just have respect for people that haven't. Whether or not someone goes to a board 6 years or 60 years after a movie comes out isn't the point. Also, many people go the boards before they see a movie to see if it's any good, or a waste of time to check out.

So, I guess my point is that it's fairly easy to put "spoilers" in a subject line. But, I guess it's more fun to be an a-hole to a person that points out that IMDB courtesy sort of dictates that.

Have a nice day, kids.

Unfortunately, Casey did die. One of the symptoms of the virus was the liquification of the internal organs, which is a steady process once infection starts, and by his stage, his organs were too damaged to save him even if he survived by the time the cure was made.

If the antivirus serum were developed a few hours before we see him for the last time, there may have been a slim chance to stop further damage, but he would have needed replacements of just about every organ in his body, and I'm sure brain damage would have been present if he recovered (since you can't transplant a brain).

It would have been nasty if he survived. I couldn't imagine a worse hell brought on by a virus. It would have been better to just let him go peacefully. It's a shame, because Kevin Spacey's character Casey was very funny.

Yes, I love how he joked around. He kept it up almost 'til the end.

reply

I'm sure Spacey's character died because he was infected far before Russo. Russo barely survived the virus.

In facts, Dustin Hoffman's total lack of interest in his presumed friend health annoyed me a lot about the ending of this movie
