How did you bring in New Year 2000?

I spent it snorting coke on the alter of Brixton Church with my good friend and DJ Rob.

Hey, Genius, you do realize that 2000 was the final year of the 20th century, and that 2001 was the first year year of the NEXT Millennium, right? Yeah, that’s a rhetorical question, Brainiac.

There’s this book, 2001, the title of which meant something.

I know: “Book . . . ? You mean . . .
reading . . . ? You meanie! You ask me to . . . ? Uh . . . Uh . . . Uh . . . Oh, what word? . . . Oh . . . THINK! You ask me to think!! You no good!! Me no like you!!!”

Yes, I am being harsh with you. This movie and essentially all popular mass media promulgated the belief that the year 2000 as the dawn of the 21st century. We live on Planet Idiot.

You must have had a great party celebrating the year 2001 all by yourself...

We'd all been living our entire lives through the 1960s, the 1970s, the 1980s, and the 1990s, and it was cool to finally tick over to 2000. It was a huge deal. The specific year 2001 being the technical start of the new millennium was a boring academic factoid nobody gave a shit about. Except for a few autistic douchebag nerds.

On topic... I honestly don't remember. I hung out with the same circle of friends for ages and I spent every new year with them from 1991 to around 2004 or so. I know exactly who's house I was at for new year 2000, but it was the same house I was at for new years 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002 and so on... they all bleed together. We didn't do anything special for 2000, just got drunk, same as every other year.

You mean, how did you brung in the final year of the 20th century?

Because that’s what it was?

Oh? You didn’t . . . ?

We had a small party at our house. I snuck down to the basement and at midnight I pulled the main circuit-breaker.
