most underrated movie EVER
it's a shame this movie didn't got an oscar, and instead was nominated for the razzie award.

shareI personally believe it's envy. Keven Costner wowed everyone with "Dances with Wolves" winning a box of oscars and other awards. He snubbed Hollywood by trying to do it again by himself so they all thumbed their noses at him. They seemed to do the same thing to Mel Gibson because of "Braveheart".
ps. I'm no film expert and this is just an opinion. So others reading this please spare me the condescending, elitist, snotty responses full of arcane minutia. I'm just curious as to what others think.
BREAKING NEWS: Experts predict 7 billion people will die in the next 100 years! Doctors baffled!
Correct that statement that KC snubbed Hollywood. That is not the truth. No one works harder at a project than Kevin Costner. He won Oscars and Golden Globes and deserved them. Sorry about the preaching, I cannot even begin to repeat the line you rattled off about yada yada yada. You got my opinion. Period.
shareHaha :D I grew up loving Waterworld, never knowing of all the hate people had for the film. In my childhood world this was the first film that topped Star Wars! I still don't understand why people hate it so intensely but I guess I'm biassed as hell!

Wouldn't say that is the MOST underrated movie of all but it's definitely up there in top ten. This is a great movie and it's a shame I didn't get to see it in the big screen! Recommended for all the family!
shareWell, maybe it is because people can't relax their critical mind and just appreciate a good action movie. I love this movie.
shareThe movie is fun but not a quality film. I can't get over how much it blatantly copies the Mad Max movies - right down to details that make no sense in a water environment. It also has too many moments that pander to the lowest common denominator. It can certainly be enjoyed for what it is, but an Oscar?
shareI watched it on HBO last night and have seen some, most or all of it on TV multiple times. Generally agree ... it's not one of the very best of the genre, but I'd call it a solid "good" and I enjoy it. Hopper's always a good villain and I like the bonding between Costner and the kid. I've always liked the scene where Costner confronts Hopper and saves her after dropping the flare down the hole. You could certainly make a list of faults and it's not an all-time fave for me, but overall, I definitely like it.
