I'm glad he's become a good actor in recent years, but watching his performance in this is painfull.

Jodi Foster on the other hand is brilliant in this. Also James Woods did a great job.

Painful in what way?

He seems to be a moderate voice of reason in the middle of a lot of voices. Sadly those voices of reason are often overlooked because they normally don't rant and rave to make their point.
