1. He picked a maverick, but you are right it's stupid. A joke for people like Kay who have a problem with authority. Also the kind of dumb principle some job interviews would take seriously, the damn table is thinking out of the box. The weird chair with no desk setup was noticeable before the punchline of the exams.
2. Yes, that was idiotic.
3. Will Smith didn't write them - they were supposed to appeal to the average viewer who likes him and was watching the movie because of him - people who think his normie attitude is cool somehow.
