"Out of breath" makes no sense

It may seem nitpicking - and perhaps it is - but when I notice these movie incongruences and contradictions to what we're shown and what we're told, it really bugs me, so I have to write it somewhere.

K says the E.T. was 'out of breath', and that the eyes were 'gills'.

There are so many questions that come to mind about that - first of all, why would the gills be where eyes should be? Why would they look like human eyes, and why would they have normal eyelids, like human eyes would? What do these E.T.s use for eyes/seeing, then? Do they have some kind of energy eyes that can see into the physical world?

Also, K shows the 'gills' blinking 1) Multiple times and 2) Horizontally, but those eyes - sorry, gilles - blinked only ONCE, and they blinked VERTICALLY (I do get these mixed up because I always think of them both ways, so I get confused as to which way is meant - I mean, if a screen scrolls 'horizontally', I think of a horizon scrolling up or down, but I can also think of something scrolling along the horizon line, etc.)..

To make it more clear, the 'gills' blinked only once (!), and they did it in the 'left-right'-direction, but K's gesture shows it happening multiple times, and in the 'up-down'-direction. Was the director this incompetent, or did Tommy Lee Jones just not care?

If you are out of breath, you should probably blink more than once, but then again, I don't know how something with GILLS even CAN be 'out of breath', because gills are not used for breathing per se (and how can he speak normally and use mouth for all kinds of breathy sounds, if he doesn't breathe with his mouth, like human beings?).

Also, isn't that very ineffective place for gills, not to mention why would anyone need gills when they're not in water (fish have trouble breathing exactly for that reason, because gills need water to work effectively), not to mention why are the gills SO SMALL, when the body is so big and can do all kinds of super jumps and such that require more muscle power, energy, and thus, MORE OXYGEN than regular human beings..

As a sidenote, why did the E.T. not just jump up where the stairs are instead of try to go INSIDE the building? What a stupid strategy! WHy would he run and escape so much just to commit a suicide suddenly? What did he FAIL at? Finding the galaxy?

As I said.. so many questions, but almost none of this stuff makes any sense. Logically, if he can jump like that and he wants to escape, why doesn't he do a Trinity and just keep jumping from roof to roof? There's no way even the most athletic human could keep up. But trying to go inside the building?

Also also, why would he be scared of his gun, and why would he not fight back? He's gonna die anyway so at least he could go out with a bang?

Also also also, would movies PLEASE stop already with pointing guns at 1 cm away from someone's face, when gun is a...

(all together now)

.. RANGED!!!!!!111....

...weapon! Watch the first X-Men movie for another ridiculous scene, where the owner of a bar tells Wolverine to get out of the bar and Wolverine, against all physical laws, slices off the shotgun that's pointed straight at his head from about 1 cm away (groan). AGH! PLEASE stop doing this!

Also also also etc., why wouldn't the E.T. just let Will Smith's character just shoot him, if he's gonna suicide anyway? Why be afraid of a gun that you can probably grab with your otherworldly reflexes before he can shoot you, and when you are going to commit a suicide anyway, what do you have to lose by just pushing him aside and continuing to run or fighting him or jumping to a higher place or another roof or running inside until he shoots you in the back or or or or..?

The choices people make in these movies make no sense.

Imagine being cornered by him at a party and listening to this nut blather on about how a sci-fi movie of all things makes no sense...

Avortac: "There are so many questions that come to mind about that - first of all, why would the gills be where eyes should be? Why would they look like human eyes, and why would they have normal eyelids, like human eyes would? What do these E.T.s use for eyes/seeing, then? "

Me: "Can we pick this up later dude? I have explosive diarrhea and really need to excuse myself to the ceramic library before I deuce myself silly".

To be honest, I'd prefer shat drawers in exchange for not having to listen to him.

One thing I've come to appreciate is that no matter how crazy, idiotic, or weird I feel sometimes.... at least I'm not avortac4.
