shareSame. Much like a David Lynch film, the texture keeps bringing me back to it as much as the endless mystery.
As well as the Christmas lights, there’s a toasty haze throughout the image - a warm, grainy overlay that makes this ‘Dream Story’ even more dreamy.
That’s exact what it is! The lounge scene just feels like a bar I’d find myself in a lot.
shareI’d love to hang out in all the locations - the Sonata Cafe, the late night diner Bill reads the newspaper in, even the Ziegler’s mansion. Kubrick has always been obsessed with spaces.
The Shining made that hotel creepy even though it was largely set in daytime. In EWS it’s nearly all a journey into the night, into the dark corners of Bill’s psyche.
I think that is a Kubrick hallmark--the overall look.
