There is something about this movie that’s visually pleasing.

The easiest way I can describe it is, it makes me feel cozy, could be all the Christmas lights I guess

reply

It's a very aesthetically pleasing movie, no doubt. The cinematography is exquisite.

reply

Same. Much like a David Lynch film, the texture keeps bringing me back to it as much as the endless mystery.

As well as the Christmas lights, there’s a toasty haze throughout the image - a warm, grainy overlay that makes this ‘Dream Story’ even more dreamy.

reply

That’s exact what it is! The lounge scene just feels like a bar I’d find myself in a lot.

reply

I’d love to hang out in all the locations - the Sonata Cafe, the late night diner Bill reads the newspaper in, even the Ziegler’s mansion. Kubrick has always been obsessed with spaces.

The Shining made that hotel creepy even though it was largely set in daytime. In EWS it’s nearly all a journey into the night, into the dark corners of Bill’s psyche.

reply

I think that is a Kubrick hallmark--the overall look.

reply

I think it's all the tits and asses and hot women in it (even when not naked).
Very visually pleasing.

reply

Yeah Kubrick presents a buffet of nice asses, boobs and snatches.

A little bit of bush goes a long way.

reply

the sharp contrast between festive lights, and the cold, bleak cityscape are indeed fantastic

reply

Indeed.

the naked people?

the casting would've been amazing.
"take off your clothes and put on this mask.. i dunno Lenny her right breast is not quite right.."

reply

and Kubrick was famous for wanting 50 takes

1970: "yeah, I've got this idea for a movie. but, I need to get a reputation for being a perfectionist, so if I get into the habit of doing 30 or 40 takes for a scene..."
