Does anyone else associate the 80s songs used in this movie....

With the year 1998? Because I saw this as a child in 1998 and had no idea it was a period piece. Songs like "Hold Me Now", "Video Killed The Radio Star" and "You Spin Me Right Round" are encapsulated in the year this movie came out for me. Usually, these songs are bigger than the film and can be heard anywhere, but for some reason, these feel like The Wedding Singer's themes. Has anyone else had an issue like this with a movie you saw as a child?

I guess it's good that these songs make me nostalgic at all. Also, it's better to think of these as the the music of my childhood than the Backstreet Boys or Britney Spears. I should be grateful XD.

I was 15 in 1985 so yes I associate with the songs used in the film.

Hit the nail on the head, never knew this was a an 80's parody until I grew up

Funny thing is. it takes place in 1985. but they only use one song from 1985 and it wasn't even the dead or alive version of you spin me round. adam was singing it... that's the only song that charted in spring of 1985..

Not me. By 1998, I've seen a lot of 80s films and I instantly recognized the 80s fads, songs, Boy George, etc.
