"i pray you will bring sanity and compassion back to the senate."

who do the naboo pray to? i bet they have some crazy god or gods.

reply

Vader too in Empire says 'pray I don't alter it any further'. In terms of praying, look no further than midi-chlorians.

They keep it pretty vague in the Star Wars universe. Rarely do you hear about any religion in that franchise other than a few expanded universe ideas from alien worlds.

The Jedi "religion" is mentioned in the very first Star Wars movie. "Don’t try to frighten us with your sorcerer’s ways, Lord Vader. Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the stolen data tapes."

I thought about including that part. The idiot Imperial who said that did not understand the Jedi/Sith ways at all and misnamed it a "religion," when it's nothing of the sort. It was particularly entertaining seeing Vader force-choke the guy, let him go, and say "I find your lack of faith disturbing," as a sort of snark towards him calling the Force a "religion."

It's actually pretty normal for people to be misinformed about the Jedi/Sith orders. They don't exactly go around telling everyone about how they do things in their temples. Not everyone in that universe knows as intimately about it as the audience would, and there's a lot of incorrect myths spread about it all over the galaxy, including calling the Jedi "sorcerers" and their ways a "religion."

I don't think "pray" is used here in the sense that they are supplicating a deity, but rather in the place of "hope." As in, I hope you bring sanity and compassion back to the senate."
