I don't believe Jake deserves forgiveness

I understand it was an accident and that he was drunk, but I don't think that should be an excuse. He still wanted his wife to experience pain for interfering. He was beating his boy and she was just trying to protect him. She would be a terrible mother if she just stood there crying while watching her boy get beaten by his father. By having Jake at the end saying not to be filled with hate over this? Jake took his mother away from him for life. That's a pretty good reason to hate someone. I think this film sends a bad message.

That’s a tough one...I’m not a man of prescribed faith, so Jesus (Shuttlesworth, not the messiah) was well within his prerogative to not want to forgive...but having hate dominate your outlook and feelings is not always healthy, but again, it was certainly within the son’s right to do so....don’t know about the message thing, you know Lee, there are a bunch of “messages” in his movies, sometimes it’s hard to keep up....I enjoyed this flick, not bad, fun in spots, interesting look at the machinations of college recruiting and life on the Coney...

Yeah I understand not wanting to live as a hateful person. But, I do think that he has a right to have ill feelings towards his dad. He's not wrong in that.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean that you have to let go of ill feelings or even that you make amends with someone, forgiveness at its core is about letting go of something that is pulling you down.

I heard somebody say recently:

"Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die."

Wow, never heard of this film (that I can remember). Most things Denzel, I'm ready to watch!
