Ok, where have I heard the opening theme before?

Has it been used in other movies?
I swear, it has to be some odd, quirky indie film like Rocket Science...
But when I heard it I WTFed and immediately went crazy trying to work out where I'd heard that before.

Any ideas?

If you don't believe in Jesus Christ and are 100% proud of it, put this in your sig.

I'm pretty sure it's Ravenous's original score, so probably nowhere.

"That is terrible advice, Ant1238."

Actually I heard it was used in something like Magnolia...
I'm just sure it was used in another film!

It could have been re-used in a later film, I guess, but I'm pretty sure it was written for Ravenous.

I know I'm a year late but there is a commercial that used the theme. It had crash test dummies. I did a google search but can't find it, though I found others talking about it. It was a spot that was played quite a bit for about 6 months so maybe you saw it there? Who knows.

Funny you should say Magnolia. There is a piece (also original, I beleieve) that sounds VERY similar to the Ravenous opening music in Boogie Nights, which, like Magnolia, is written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.

"I'M AS MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"

The song is Boyd's Journey, and it was written for the movie. You can find it on youtube.

It sounded a lot like "Jesus is Coming Soon",and I mean.......a lot.

I know this is an incredibly old post, but I just heard one of the recurring songs on a Survivorman episode today. It was an older episode (Arctic) but I didn't catch how old. It is what reminded me of this movie and brought me to the forum.

The music overall has a very 19th Century American country sound to it.

In this scene from Jeremiah Johnson, Jeremiah comes upon a fellow mountain man who's dead as stone and reads a self-written eulogy declaring that whomever finds him and his rifle has rightful ownership of it. The music in the background sounds a lot like 19th Century eulogy music and bears a striking resemblance to the timbre and mood of Ravenous' soundtrack:

As others have said, the soundtrack was original. However, it certainly reminded me of the music from that old computer game, The Oregon Trail.

The music was composed by Michael Nyman, who has done music for several artistic Peter Greenaway movies. Its maybe possible you've heard something resembling this piece from him?

reply

Well it was Nyman and, weirdly, Damon Albarn from Blur.
