"We Like to Call" makes no sense: The Epic Sequel
I know I have already addressed how it doesn't make sense for Morpheus to say, 'We like to call The Matrix'.
My thought was that if EVERY single atom in all existence calls it 'The Matrix', it makes about as much sense as if some salesman tells you: "These are electronic multi-functional devices we like to call 'Computers'".
You can think of plenty of examples.. '..that we like to call 'cars'". How about buildings, The Earth, The Sun, A Wom.. oh, that one might be debatable these days.
In any case, my point was, if everyone calls it 'The Matrix', it is very weird to say 'WE LIKE TO CALL' about it.
This time, I want to point to the other side of this madness.
"We LIKE"... really? You LIKE to call it that? You actually _LIKE_ calling it 'The Matrix'?
Does EVERYONE like the same thing? The internet had surely proven since its construction that people like different things, and have different amount of like about things as well. There is NO WAY every single being even just in the ship, let alone the whole Zion, let alone everyone that knows about 'The Matrix' (who is this 'we' anyway? Does this word exist to create an artificial separation between 'humans' and 'machines'?) LIKES calling it 'The Matrix'!
It's just not possible.
Second, do people call things something because they _LIKE_ calling it those things? Do you call a carpet exactly 'carpet', because you like calling it 'carpet'? (It's neither car nor pet, so why is it even called carpet?)
What about shampoo? (What a weird word, both SHAM and POO are basically 'bad words', but we put that in our hair!)
Does a bus driver call a bus bus because he LIKES calling it bus, and for no other reason whatsoever?
What if you don't LIKE calling it 'The Matrix'? What if that weird guy in the corner wants to call it 'Blardengarf' or 'VirtuaPlanet 2: The Advent of the Machines', or 'Hypno-Control of the Masses via Electro-Technical Means'?
If things are called what they are just because people LIKE doing that, then 'The Matrix' would have about a billion different names, as everyone would be calling it whatever they see fit, and they would even change it, if not daily, then at least monthly or yearly. There is no way all humanity reached consensus as to what to LIKE calling something!
That CAN'T be the reason!
Furthermore (yes, there IS more, believe it or not!)...
.. how come everyone LIKES calling it exactly the same word the machines are already calling it? Why does everyone LIKE the same thing as soulless machines? What kind of a ridiculous happenstance is this?
Doesn't this movie try to shove in our throats the illogical idea that computer programs can be and in this world, are somehow 'sentient beings' with individuality? Why do they all LIKE the same thing, or call 'The Matrix' something they don't like?
None of this makes sense.
It's astonishing, though, how much something so small, short and seemingly insignifigant doesn't make sense (no dwarf jokes, please). How someone can let something so nonsensical out of their mouth, you have to process it via two separate posts and still aren't probably done. How just a few words in a sequence, just a short sentence, just a couple of audiowaves can create SO much nonsense that you could basically write a small novel out of explaining it.
This is almost a small miracle. I could never be that conscise, I could never make such a small sentence contain that much horrible nonsense if I tried.
