When does this show start to suck?

Because I remember watching it as a kid and not really understanding what happened to that one sister that seemed to die off screen and was never really addressed, but the show was still enjoyable until Cole's death. I can't remember if it got better than that so can anyone give me a consensus on which season the show started to suck? Thanks.

I didn't notice such a big change in the quality, the series was never great but it was never awful, though I think I missed last one-two seasons. In general, I remember the series going worse after Paige.

I remember seeing the whole show way back in the day in high school. So there was DEFINITELY a steep decline in quality. Especially with "the new sister". It just didn't feel like the same show at a certain point. I just cant pinpoint where. I keep imagining that it was after season 4 that things started to decline. I want to rewatch the show again but I'm trying to figure out which season bookends the series well enough without me having to commit to the rest of it.

Yeap, the new sister was Paige, so I agree.

Funny thing, you're not the only one thinking about rewatching it. TV has become so political and unwatchable nowadays that I'm turning towards Asian movies and old series. :D

Season 7 was pretty bad, but at least it included all sisters and Leo.
Season 8 was when the show "sucked" it had the worst character(s) ever - Billie & Christy, our main sisters were cut down with screen time - what's more worse than that?
At least the series got a decent series finale and it didn't end with season 7's finale...

reply

I agree season 7 fucking sucked. No story @ all. N I'm glad they ended it @ season 8. Cuz season 7 ending had loose ends n it made no sense.

reply

Season 1, Episode 1, at approximately the :01 mark.

Nailed it

The first season was the best season. It became unwatchable after the third season. A lot of fans seem to think season 4 was still okay and that the show started to suck after that.

Big fan here. This is basically on point. First season is best. But it's pretty good for all three. After the cast shakeup it's still pretty good. For reals. That season. Then it goes off the reservation. The overall soap opera plotlines are kind of solid, with the romances and big arcs. But the individual characters after Prue left are assassinated. The struggle to re-adapt kept the story relevant. But once it settled, stank city. Piper became a wicked witch and Phoebe became a prom queen lusting after Nic Cage.

reply

That sounds just like Buffy too!

reply

That's exactly my opinion of Buffy. Although I think its first 3 seasons are much stronger than Charmed.

reply

My opinion...

It became too silly after season 4. And commenced with upping the silly factor from then onwards. This was always a playful show that had fun with its story lines, but it still for the most part was about three sisters living in an alternate real world and navigating a combination of normal, real-life, real-women problems. The powers and stories show-cased were often only there to highlight the issues going on between the sisters.

I feel like they threw this out the window completely after season 4 and started to treat their adult cast more like teen girls in a fantasy-based show, not specifically a witch/wicca-based show.

Season 4 was probably the last season I fully enjoyed, started going downhill for me in season 5.

reply

Same here. About half way through season 4 is when I tune out.

reply

Paige was the beginning of the end and I think it may have been the last or second last season when they added Kaley Cuoco's character which they really didn't need.

reply

After Prue.

I didn't like it when they started including things like magic school and elves and "magical community" like what is that. It was a big clash with the previous tone of the show.
