Worst wager since Cliff

I'm not surprised this is being talked about in all other circles except here on MC, where the attendance is lame:

She had an insurmountable lead over her closest competitor ($20,000 vs $8,000), with only about $3000 of clues left on the board. Betting $0 almost surely would've guaranteed her a clinch win, but she bet $10,000, got the DJ question wrong, lost FJ and lost the game that she had nearly clinched! Given the way she was playing, it's unlikely she wouldn't have answered enough of the remaining questions (answers) to clinch.

I'd have to go back and watch James Holzhauer's games. He was a huge gambler on DJ, but I don't think even he would've risked his clinch-win with a big gamble in that situation.

snatched defeat from the jaws of victory eh?

Well said moviechatterer, even though this is not chatter about a movie!

I saw that $10k bet! Thought it was unexpected and unnecessary. No wonder her face was red at the end.

Really too bad. She only lives about 1/2 hour from me.

It was even worse than you describe Dave!! She had a $21,800 to $7100 lead, and there were only $2000 dollars left on the board. Even if the second place contestant ran the table, she would still be well above double the second place player's totals. All she had to do was put the button down and coast to the win.

My wife and I were watching it - when she hit the Double Jeopardy, we both said bet nothing - the TV not being interactive she couldn't hear our advice. When she bet $10K, I said I hoped she didn't get it the answer because she was either really stupid, really reckless, or really greedy.

I enjoyed that loss. For everyone else, here it is:

She was not much of a strategist. She said in the link I posted that she bet enough to still stay in the lead, and was just having fun. I love how the TV Insider compared her to Cliff, because that's the first thing that came to my mind too!

I was surprised at Ken Jennings' seemingly unphased reaction.

Cliff got robbed. None of those people were in his kitchen..

Good point. Maybe he can get invited onto the new "2nd chance" tournament, or at least on SNL Black Jeopardy or regular SNL Jeopardy.

Won't be the same since Sean Connery passed.
