Dated, but still good

Some of the camera work uses sped up or slo mo that does not account for frame rate and it is very noticeable.

Soundtrack: because Hanz Zimmer repeatedly used the extremely similar songs in his other projects. Most notably Pirates.

Some scene introductions were like that of a soap opera.

Although these were all really distracting elements the story overall is still really well thought out and cool. There were 3 writers if I'm not mistaken. It was great story telling which is what a movie should be. Something you'd be hard pressed to find in any movie these days.

Agreed.
It's still good.

The soundtrack is a major offender... The song is almost copy pasted into the Pirates of the Caribbean...

Zimmer should have won an Oscar for this one, not for Dune.

A great movie and will remain so. We could use another Roman Empire epic about now.

The completely dumbass, yet far too common, "dated" complaint.

What's dumbass about it?

The movie is not dated, your reasoning is stupid

The slow motion in the action part was never good, even for its time, but Ridley Scott likes it. He uses it often in his other films too unfortunately. I don't feel like the film is dated really at all, other than it doesn't use a ton of CGI which is abused by blockbuster films nowadays. It feels like an epic drama which I guess we just don't see those type of movies much anymore so maybe it is dated in that aspect.

Other than Pirates (which was a later project), what other songs are extremely similar to this for Zimmer? I really can't think of any off of the top of my head. I don't think it sounds anything like Last Samurai, Inception, Interstellar, Batman, Sherlock, or Dune. I'm sure I am missing many, but those are what come to mind.
