The reviews describe it as so disturbing that its basically unwatchable and will make you sick and change you. I was ready for the horrific depression that was to be. Nope. Its not like that at all. There are reviews saying dont watch its too upsetting. What? Wilson floating away in cast away is sadder than anything here. The most overrated depressive hyped nonsense ever.

I agree. I think it was a product of its time. Watching it today, it's still intense, but not as intense as it's always spoken about.

I found it practically unwatchable at release and remembered it as incredibly depressing, but 20 years later it looks like a dark comedy. Kind of like a parody of itself.
