What do you think about Spyke?

I liked him all right. He was an annoying kid at times but he was far from being my least favorite character on the show. I'm one of those weird people that actually preferred how he was handled in the first seasons to when he went all morlock. I never really liked how he was treated by the show's writing though. Sometimes he was just a little reckless kid who did stupid things but still got along with the others more or less then other times it was as though he was some kind of antisocial problem child. They couldn't seem to develop him in a consistent manner.

I liked him alright, but he shouldn't have been a main character.
If they needed a young black male they could have used Nightcrawler since he was already blue.
Then maybe they could have added Iceman or a young Beast to the linueup.

Ok, I am re-watching this show and I am realizing just how GOOD it was! I mean the premise and the animation are all superb. As far as Evan/Spike, I think he was done very well. The writers needed and AA male teenage character and he fit the bill. I love the way they didn't make him too stereotypical yet still allowed him to be imperfect.

As far as his looks and hobbies, I think some of these comments are just plain ridiculous. This is a CARTOON about a group of mutant kids with special powers and you think its strange to see a black kid with bleached-blonde hair riding a skateboard? Have you ever heard of Pharrell Williams and Dennis Rodman?

All in all, this is quite an amazing show!

I thought he was annoying. I know this was a reimagining of the X-Men universe (them being teens) and that the show was bound to deal with teenage things, but some of the stuff Spyke did were just plain childish. Up until he joined the Moorlocks, I found him uninteresting. Thank god he joined with them; he finally became interesting when his powers evolved...plus we finally saw less of him. When he reappeared in season 3, I thought it was a good episode and I had no problem with him as a character then. I guess my main problem with him was how childish they portrayed him to be.

For the record, this doesn't mean that I didn't find some of the other characters childish at times, too (like Wolverine and his constant "rawrs" with Sabretooth even when they're supposed to be cooperating with each other -- put it aside, will you?! You're supposedly a grown man with experience, for crying out loud. Save the childish squabbles for later). But Spyke was just really annoyingly childish the entire time he was at The Institute. There was a time when they just redid the mansion after the explosion; the living room was already immaculate and all but Spyke just HAD to let out his wood.

I can't understand some of you, from years ago, think he'd have a healing factor but sorry to say he doesn't. His power was basically the ability to grow tumors out of his flesh. They didnt leave wounds. Any normal damage he took, needed time to recover. He was extremely arrogant, which was horrid, as he literally had the worst ability of all the mutants until his powers evolved. Except Toad maybe. But he was lame. Morlock storyline helped him a LOT, made his spikes look much better.

He reminded of Jubilee in the Animated series. Pretty much a filler character and both annoying.
