why did this movie do so poorly at the box office

anyone know why?

reply

I know why:

because it stunk.

It was long, and the plot moved like molasses. Long movies have to keep the interest high or be major tearjerkers. Not everybody can write a Schindler's List or Lord of the Rings script and be successful at it.

I had no idea it had done badly at the box office......
But I would venture the following:
Word of Mouth reviews were probably negative from people going to see the film "because Bruce Willis was in it" then found to their dismay it was not another Die Hard-type movie & therefore, in their eyes:
It was Crap.....Just too much dialogue for those of a short attention span.

Personally, I thought it was a great film and by far the best that I have seen Bruce Willis in.(But then I think the Die Hard series were simply garbage.)

(I find it so sad that the nub of the film centres around the racial hatred so prevalent in the USA. (then & now)
Black Americans have fought in all US wars, including that for Independence.
Everyone agrees the Nazis were bad...but their legacy still lingers in the USA. A great country founded on immigration yet so flawed throughout its history. A history marred by a few bigots. Time it & they were sorted out.)

But to recap: A "good to excellent" film....thoroughly worth the effort.
(And.....Thank you Mr.Willis.)

You think the Die Hard series is garbage?????????

Moving on. I agree with part of your reasons. I think this movie was marketed wrong - people thought they were going to see a BW action movie, and it wasn't. So some people were disappointed and spread bad word-of-mouth.

Having said that, I don't think it's fair to blame it's total failure on that. Nor is it because of "too much dialogue for those of a short attention span". There's nothing wrong with my attention span and I appreciate good dialogue in a movie. On top of that, I'm a huge Colin Farrell fan and I often like Bruce Willis.

But this movie simply wasn't very good. It's average at best, and the...SPOILER FOR ENDING...ridiculously syrupy ending takes it down another notch.

it's good

The Die Hard nonsense was pure crap for anyone who enjoys intelligent cinema, grow up and face it. Bruce Willis is a face, can't act, never could. Action films are for pre-teen boys or those with lower than average IQ

You are a film snob and brought down imdb. People like you are why imdb was shut down. I haven't seen this movie in several years and don't remember it. But I think I will give it a watch.

Amazon purchased the IMDB and all of it's web data. They eliminated the forums to save money. I miss the forums very much. Remember any discussion regarding film is simply discussion, nothing personal.

Sorry. It's just this guy said anybody who likes action films is a stupid person or a kid. Which is a jerk thing to say.

When you see a war movie you want to see "Saving Private Ryan" not "Breaker Morant".

I found it to be very boring --- and I watched it on TV

I saw it when it came out and can scarcely remember much, other than it I found it dreadfully boring and a real letdown.
