Most Underappreciated movie of 2002

This was far and away the most underappreciated movie of the year. Everything about it was brilliant. Great acting, believable story, great direction, and a great score. Enough said

may underappreciated but not the most of 2002. that title would go to the count of monte cristo. but i really did enjoy changing lanes, ben affleck is actually trying to be a good actor.

Ethical Dilemmas - spot on, yet another of those fantastic films in a What would you do in their shoes?
Far more believeable than Phone Booth which had a good premise then just got more drawn out and ran out of steam.
Solid acting from both leads and reaffirms more belief that 99% of lawyers are criminals.

I have to agree with most of these posts - I'm surprised how few people have seen or heard of this film. It really gripped me from start to finish and made me think of how easily life/arguments can spiral out of hand. In this sense the film was not that unrealistic as both men were clearly subject to huge levels of stress before the highway incident occured. I thought Amanda Peet's performance as the ideal wife with the ideal life was chilling, and Pollack was fabulous. Jackson was quite heart-rending at times. But what surprised me most was Ben Affleck. I often think that certain actors get branded wooden, bad or even brilliant and from that moment on, most reviewers/viewers perpetuate that impression. It's a bit of a mob mentality approach, which often fails to take each film and acting performance on its own merit. In many of his films (The Sum of All Fears for example which is just a horrible, horrible movie) Affleck is non-descript and forced. But in this film, I thought he was utterly convincing and even quite compelling. Easily his best role to date, apart from his pleasantly nuanced performance in Good Will Hunting. Maybe the director Roger Michell can take some credit for this? His work often strikes me as interesting and nicely-paced, so maybe he brings out the best in his actors...

Agreed, it was and still is a great film, definitely, definitely underrated! OP, I couldn't agree more. Jackson & Affleck were really really good!

No, Chance is the most unappreciated movie of 2002. It didn't even get a publisher, but almost everyone that watched it loved it. And it's in my opinion the best comedy ever.

That's the truth. I saw the trailer for this film in late 2001. It seemd interesting at first. When I saw the trailer again, it looked a bit Hollywood. It looked like some of the films that Affleck and Jackson have, unfortunately, allowed themselves to take part in over the last few years. But when I saw the film....Yowsa...One of the very best films of 2002. Maybe one of the ten best.
