Why did they make Betty so dislikeable and one other little thing

And the fact only in the last 10 minutes or so try to make her likeable and her and Katherine Warren all of sudden friends. It just didn't feel warranted at all.

She should have been what Ethan Hawke was to Dead Poets Society. Have Betty be someone who goes along with old fashioned values and gradually Katherine Warren influence she turns it around decides to fight back agaisnt what is expected of her. She starts off been dislikeable but mid point she starts to become a better person. She should have been what Julia Stiles character end up been besides her getting married.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, Julia Stiles and Ginnifer Goodwin are all very good in this. I feel like Julia Roberts is a bit miscast, would have liked to see someone like Kate Winselt or Cath Blanchett in that role. I thought Dunst was really under used in this one.

Also maybe a strange nitpick (besides Juliet Stevenson's nurse, who's out of the movie after 20 minutes) not one of the girls in a all girl boarding school is Lesbian or Bi-sexual. Would have been a interesting to have one character who maybe falls for her friend or ends up in a relationship but plays it straight to her friends. Nowadays if this was made you'd probably would have a lesbian student in it.
