Who was Gordon's visitor?

Surprised there wasn't a thread for this already- it's clearly never stated in the movie, so it's up to our imaginations. But I think it hurt the movie because it created suspense where there was none, and we never got to see anyone else interact with their visitor besides Clooney, which I thought was badly needed. So who was Gordon's? And what was the strange noise coming from her room if she had already vaporized them like she said?

The same mystery is in the book. The character of Gordon is a man though, named Sartorius, and has a mysterious visitor that is never revealed. Hints are of a very playful noisy visitor.

In the original 1972 film, it was a midget/little person, but you never know for sure.
