Did Monty Go To Prison Or Not?

I have only seen the butchered (aka edited) version of 25th Hour. Did Monty decide to tough it out in prison or did he run? Please, help this dumb old man. Thank you.

Both guys in the The plot summary say "shocking, disturbing finale" or "shocking ending"

What was the shocking ending ? I mean good movie, good acting, ambiguous ending but i saw nothing "shocking" in the end

Precisely, these plot summaries can be concocted by just about anybody. This is why I typically read what the studio writes.

Besides, the reviews written by IMDb users most likely contain spoilers. I can't tell you how many times I've ran into details that pretty much give away a major plot point of a movie.

As for the OP: He went to prison. It's pretty obvious from the "How close you came" speech from his father.

Yes, he went to prison. The "escaping out west and mexican family of four" thing was just a dream he had in the car as his dad was driving him to prison. He wakes up to reality at the end.

He did. Otherwise the movie made no sense.

It's an open ending.

It's up to us to decide what really happened.

But it's more hinted on that he sadly did go to prison. At least that's what the posters say.

But I think otherwise. The dad says something like, "this ending..........it almost never happened," implying he did escape.

IMHO we the viewers decide what really happens.

"Be excellent to each other...And....Party on!"
