Is there any series even close to as amazing as this?

I have tried to find a show, live-action or animated that has the same intellectual depth, mystery, suspense, and artistic beauty as GiTS: SAC, but I haven't found anything that even approaches it. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

In terms of animation and production quality Last Exile is definitely on par. I watched some on Netflix and it was good. Only thing is, all these shows mentioned (that one included) are quire boring and only can maybe match GITS in one category.

Something about this special ops group solving crimes is very good. Also, it helps to have gore. You can watch every episode of Trigun or Cowboy Bepop and there will be a total of 112,000 bullets fired and nobody gets headshotted or bleeds. Lame and unrealistic.

WOW! Time was, that's all I ever heard anybody talk about.
Some kinda backlash, methinks.
