Does she wear the slutty outfit in every episode?

I like GITS but I stopped watching SAC after the first couple (2 or 3) episodes because of (feel free to laugh or whatever) Major's ridiculous outfit (I think you know which one I mean). I like sexy women but Major in SAC was stupid and IMO quite insulting to mature viewers and Major's character. So my question to those who've seen all of the two seasons is: is she dressed more appropriately in later episodes so I could try watching SAC again?

I wish they gave her normal clothes. If for no other reason than because it draws attention away from everything else and adds nothing to the show.

I think it adds quite a bit. At least, most fans seem to talk only about her outfit (by far the longest tread on IMDB,) so it definately generates interest :P

Seriously, her outfit coupled with her reserved sexuality make her very interesting. She is asexual most of the time, unless she gets crazy, having fun with 13yr old boys and almost giving heart atacks to old pervs.(not even getting in the manga)

It makes her seem a woman very much in control of her sexuality, even thou she has a lot of personality and identity issues. It seems to me that she had to get used with the idea of sexuality, since her body was robotic before adolescence, so a lot of the hormone changes might not have happened with her.

I believe she fabricated a sexuality for herself, and became very secure in it. The clothing is just a hint to that.

It's based on a Shirow Masamune manga, so you have to expect (IMHO tedious) fanservice. But it also comes alongside an excellent and mature story - which admittedly starts slowly.

GITS 2nd gig is a very non anime anime, I mean yes it is an animated series written and produced in Japan. However it is very serious, I think that the show does this in order to keep with its anime character if not it would be more stark like Jin Roh.

Maybe that's the fasion of the future. The way girls dress today would be seen as just as slutty back in the old days.

Although the claim on fanservice is undeniable as it is a tradition and longstanding hallmark of anime, this actually isn't such a bad in-universe explanation when you think about it.

Even 40 years ago a mini-skirt was considered unholy and extremely slutty, and now it's something that even many good girls and perfectly normal women will wear without being publicly embarrassed or ostracized. GITS takes place in 2030, and that's not as much of a gap, but it's still 20 years from now and style could change a whole hell of a lot. So, yeah, not the worst argument but doesn't destroy the notion or idea of fanservice.

I tend to agree with you on this.

Honstly though I didn't and still don't find her outfit to be "slutty". It is form fitting but when you think about all the superheroes and anime characters out there. A ton have the "spandex" style garb.

She's still essentially wearing a 1 piece bathing suit with stockings, boots and a coat and belt. Looking at other characters like Gurren Lagann's Yuko...yeah Motoko is quite conservative. Even Kamina from Gurren Lagann bears tons of skin as a male character...

I think it also matters how the character behaves. You won't see Motoko bending over or having her chest bouncing for no reason if at all.

Other shows they throw that in in as fanservice or as comedy. GitS didn't do either really imo to any great degree. But taking a still screenshot of a moving set of images is out of context. Because the focus of the show is usually what's going on and not her at all.

Though to have a perfectly crafted female body in a futuristic world with identity issues it would seem silly not to use it to flaunt to a certain degree as well.

It really depends on what "slutty" means. The Motoko on the show doesn't act particularly "slutty" or overtly sexual in serious or non serious situations to me. Thus how she dresses imo is more of a character trait to me then a overt play to pure fanservice or a way for a character to have a sexy appearance for no reason other than to be sexual looking. In other words I think her character being as independent and free thinking as she is, might just decide that's the look for her.

Though perhaps the whole thing has to do with ourselves. Perhaps for some of us it's hard to see a strong female lead also have a strong sense of her sexuality.

Since the image of a strong intelligent woman is generally ascribed to someone not sexually mature or at least not sexually aware or confident. A kind of one or the other but not both type of "complex". But if Motoko can posses both occupations at once and use them at will. Perhaps it's an afront to the status quo or even threatening to some...
