Really Liberal Writing
Maybe I'm super sensitive to it, but last week with the 'Dreamer' storyline and this week with innocent Gitmo detainee story, I hope this show didn't flip the script and go Liberal since Gary Glasberg's death.
shareMaybe I'm super sensitive to it, but last week with the 'Dreamer' storyline and this week with innocent Gitmo detainee story, I hope this show didn't flip the script and go Liberal since Gary Glasberg's death.
shareWhy is a storyline about an innocent guy being locked up in Gitmo and kept there because translators lied about what he said, considered 'Liberal Writing'?
shareI know, right? That 'unlawful imprisonment' thing is soooo a liberal issue, isn't it. If the prisoner had been a good ol' boy from Oklahoma unjustly imprisoned in Leavenworth, this plotline wouldn't be questioned.
People never complain when this show praises active service members, or (especially) injured or disabled vets.
And oh yeah, Bishop dating a Muslim.... the horror!!
(Unfortunately I think this country has already been set back 20 years. And counting.)
I know it's hard for you to see the bias. This show does praise the military and I give them kudos for many years of good work. If you can't see how they are forcing the left's agenda, I will never be able to make you see it.
This agenda is a tactic by all politicians to get us to argue with each other. All almost 100% of those who are soooo concerned with this or that agenda haven't one credit in political science world or national history,or anythig that helps them see the big picture. The agend you should be worrying about isn't your felllow Americans minor leanings issues...We all what the same things. Mostly very simple things.
But the politicians thru cable and radio personalities making hundreds of millions want us to be at each other's throats.
When you sit people down, when even (avg) 3minutes is spent with two reasonable people from different camps as it were, you find they both want exactly the same thing. And what all this comes down to is what we have been paying attention to. NOT what is really going on,but to what radio and tv TALKERS making millionsare telling us how dangerous we are to each other. The fox telling the chickens to peck each other to death,,,,fellow countryman,...and behind each one is a mega corp!!! That is the real agenda you need to be concerned with. Not good fellows Americans who might have a differing opinion, but what the same things. These others, those with money and power, they don't want the things we do,not even close!
Respectfully
Respectfully, I disagree. Corporations are not the enemy, no matter how much it's portrayed on TV. Their existence relies on the only true democratic governance, Capitalism. You cast your vote for or against a company by whether or not you buy their product. Much like, I do not like what NBC spews out on many of their shows. So choose not to watch much of anything on that network.
When you say this tactic is done by all politicians, I get it. The writers/Producers of NCIS are not politicians. They should keep their views to themselves.

shareTo a Liberal, everyone in Gitmo is innocent. Can't you see how they are softening up the populace to their agenda? I guarantee that most of the viewership of this show is pro-military and pro-law enforcement. By shoving these stories down our throats, the left creates a 'new normal'. For instance, I didn't say all Muslims are terrorists, but that's how a Lib heard my original comment. You need to look closer and see the political agenda the writers are sending. For instance, I love the Star Trek universe. I hate the political undertones it tries to convey. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you need to educate yourself.

Excellent response. I'll add a bit more.

My point is that the Liberal spin in Hollywood is being done to indoctrinate the population. Any dissent is unacceptable. Sometimes it's subtle, sometimes it's really overt. When it's brought to light, liberals fight back with ridicule and shame.
Sometimes I don't care when shows get political. Star Trek was fine because I knew it described a Lib's wet dream of a future. By making political statements in NCIS, the writers are trying to influence the present in way I find unacceptable.
Do you always resort to insults when people don't agree with you? "Lib"? Really? And no "all" liberals don't believe most or even many of the detainees at Gitmo are innocent.
Of course, you paint "liberal" in some sort of uniform broad hyperbolic picture. Nothing could be further from the truth. Should liberals paint all conservatives the same way? No, of course not.
Finally, yes by all means let's decide that a "Lib's wet dream" of equality, peace (for the most part), and respect for the military of the time (aka Starfleet) is a horrible, even unthinkable thing.
If you want shows to influence the present to your seemingly narrow liking, well, go watch those shows instead of this one.
My point is that the Liberal spin in Hollywood is being done to indoctrinate the population. Any dissent is unacceptable. Sometimes it's subtle, sometimes it's really overt. When it's brought to light, liberals fight back with ridicule and shame.
Then please do us all a favor and stop watching and posting utter BS. Whenever someone keeps nattering on about "liberal spin," "you liberals," etc, I find little merit in that person's arguments. As a writer and former English professor, I've spent much of my life analyzing literature and entertainment. Writers seldom have "agendas" in mind while producing scripts; they are the products of their experiences, education and upbringing. Gitmo has long been a complicated issue, so it makes for interesting material. Likewise, issues about the shameful treatment of veterans have also been the subject of many scripts and books (fiction and non-fiction).
You are making a mountain out of a molehill. Politics are everywhere; it's hard to avoid them. After spending 20 years teaching at major universities and a small Catholic college, I refute your claims about "any dissent is unacceptable." Most of my colleagues and I encouraged our students to question everything, to do their own research, while coming to their own conclusions. That is what good citizens should do. I hate to burst your bubble, but evidence seems clear the oligarchs on both sides of the aisle have spent many years brainwashing the less perceptive into accepting their criminal greed (hiding money in offshore accounts to avoid paying their fair share of taxes, starting illegal wars for profit, stealing elections, committing torture and black ops, shipping good middle and working class jobs overseas, pitting people of various races and ethnic origins against each other, etc). For a number of years, the major political parties have become interchangeable. Election fraud is rampant on both sides.
Put puppy mills out of business: never buy dogs from pet shops!
I read that the Republicans love this for the reasons you mention, and I;m one of 'em

It feels, to a totally rational INTP, like there is a lot of leftist subversive hate with no facts to back up the claim that NCIS is pushing a liberal agenda. I've been a fan of this show from the beginning and while I wish no ill to the military and police, I would not say I am "pro-" either one. I think it's sad humans use the gift that differentiates them from all other animals, the prefrontal cortex, for xenophobic hate and domination. We are all immigrants to this country of different colors and religions somewhere in our lineage. If you see subliminal messages where others don't change the channel and watch something else. That's the freedom of which I'm a patriot. It's the freedom I all too much fear will soon be lost. Enjoy it while we still have it. That is what I look forward to seeing portrayed as beautiful thing in this show every week. That message comes from an atheist person of 100% white European ancestry whose father served his country in the Army, thank you very much.

It's not as if they are having a pop at the military .They are however having s shot at private contractors
shareListen again to Torres at the vending machine talking about how Bishop is completely not his type. I'm pretty sure that's going to include gender. Then again I was fairly sure MI6 was the one the brothers were seeking.
I'm sure they'll have the mandatory pro-gay episode soon. That's so 2010. The current big-push issue is transgender. share
What has happened to this board? It was fun and interesting with intelligent responses Now it's full of nasty racists and bigots and Antisemites. I am sure I will get nasty responses from the ones I mentioned and yes I am a liberal and proud of it.
sharePolitics started getting discussed. Political discussions tend not to be fun and interesting with intelligent responses in the modern world. It's all mudslinging these days.
I think the biggest problem with this board is that about 50% of the newest posters hate the show, and have just recently decided to start posting about the (new) characters and perceived direction of the show. Another 25% are long time posters who are disappointed with the show, and the few remaining fans have just tried to wait for the sh!t storm to blow over so we can discuss NCIS again, things we enjoy, and things that disappoint,
Most of the OT threads are a nice mix of older posters just chatting, until they get hijacked. This election has given people that felt marginalized by Hollywood some boldness. Those of us who just feel marginalized--as a woman, can I raise my hand?--get to wait that out, too. As seldon said, it's not fun.
_________
No, David. No one is happy in a poodle skirt and a sweater set.
as a woman, can I raise my hand?
Not really. Despite all the claims, did you really think the woman who has remained married to the king of the womanizers was really going to help anything? The problems in that field weren't really affected by the election.
But I do agree with the rest and hope things go back to normal soon. Even though I let myself get drawn in on some of the discussions, I'd love to see them go away and stay gone.
My raising my hand had nothing to do with the election.
The fact that you didn't realize that, and you are actually a male poster I respect in most ways, says volumes about how subtle and insidious inequality is in this, and many countries.
Go back and reread bluelithium's response to you on the Bull board. Or better yet, just think about this: until about 40 years ago, medical insurance companies would cover the cost of a mastectomy, but not the cost of a mammogram. Now ask yourself if it was *ever* the case that they covered a prostatectomy, but not the cost of a prostate exam.....
_________
No, David. No one is happy in a poodle skirt and a sweater set.
And if you think it's a one way street then you don't have any male friends or relatives who have been in a custody battle for their kids.
It's only a two way street for a few blocks.
Look, I don't blame people for not seeing the problems, it is, as I said, subtle, but pervasive. It's the 21st century, yet my daughter was recently given the raise and responsibilities of a senior management position, without the name. She was told, but not outright so she could sue, that it was because they were still hoping to find a man to fill the position. And no one saw anything wrong with that. Yes, they felt she could handle the work, but she didn't get the position.
Can you say "glass ceiling?"
_________
No, David. No one is happy in a poodle skirt and a sweater set.
Yes, the job title is so horribly worse than my brother in law only being able to see his daughter every other weekend because he is a male.
And if a male is found for the position and they take away the raise, your daughter should probably consult a lawyer anyway. But for the present, her best move is to do her best and make it so any male has a tough time filling her shoes.
Men not getting custody....that's a judgement I can't make. I don't know all the facts, and every story has 2 sides, although it is often very difficult to see both sides. We have friends whose son divorced and their split was completely amicable, their child care arrangements best for everyone, but the priority being the children. How they handled it is different then someone else, and someone else, and someone else. I can feel your anger that the judge's decision left, but I don't know the details; I don't want to know such personal details.
But trivializing women in the workplace, as consumers, as functioning members of society has been such a longstanding occurrence that we don't see it anymore. If I can get one person to at least look for it, it's a good day.
And of course you are correct. She does her job to the best of her ability. But....she should be able to put on her resume *now* that she achieved the level of senior management in her company, since she is in all things but name. That sucks. It's not the same as seeing one's children; I don't think the two things are comparable. But you feel the injustice is comparable. I feel for your brother in-law, but men have, historically, not wanted the responsibility of child rearing. It will take the world a while to catch up. I'm sorry it hasn't yet for your family.
I wonder if it will ever catch up for my daughter.
_______
No, David. No one is happy in a poodle skirt and a sweater set.
reader, I absolutely agree with seldon "And if a male is found for the position and they take away the raise, your daughter should probably consult a lawyer anyway"
If I was your daughter I would hope they did find a man to replace me, I would have a field day in court with the lawsuit, no matter what idiotic contract they made her sign, if they did, remember, a contract is not a contract unless the agreement is legal,
oh, good, the Israelis are back
I agree, it's wrong that custody of a child/children should be based primarily on the sex of the parent. Asuming no abuse, there are plenty of other considerations to way up.
The non-custodial parent shouldn't have access between them and the children limited, either. Without a much better reason than warring parents.

It's fine to counter his points, but the whole "if you don't like it, change the channel" argument is crap. There's nothing wrong with someone voicing their dislike of a shows direction. It means they like the show enough to bother being upset that it sucks now (to them). Trust me, the show has bias. Every show has bias. The only times you don't see it is when you agree with the bias, otherwise it's noticable. But to have a completely unbiased show with no conflict would be boring and would tank. Just assume it will be biased in some way, and let those who don't agree with the bias voice their opinions on it. After all, that's kinda the point to begin with.
shareI agree and voicing my opinion, I am. However, political and cultural biases aside, I believe the Liberal point of view is dangerous and is shaping the way we think, not in a good way. They do it incrementally, a little bit at a time. Until, before you know it, you have "the new normal". When Obama says, that climate change is more dangerous to us than terrorism. And then he says the science is clear when it's not. And then, documentaries are made showing hysterical children combatting climate change. Finally, you are called a "denier" for not buying their political clap-trap. The same could be said about almost every Liberal issue. Transgender bathrooms, gay marriage, guns, etc. In the case of this episode, radical Islamic terrorism and softening our views on Muslims.
I, too, think the whole "if you don't like it, change the channel" argument is crap. Mainly because I have 14 years invested in these stories and this one was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.
When Obama says, that climate change is more dangerous to us than terrorism. And then he says the science is clear when it's not.
It's also in line with recent investigative news articles that show that many of the men locked up had no ties to terrorist groups. Maybe that was part of the inspiration for this writing.
I'm cool, you're cool, we're cool, thank you, good night!-My Science Project
I agree with the original post. I've been watching NCIS ever since it was spun off from JAG 15 years ago and it has decidedly turned Liberal. I don't watch shows like this to be lectured to, not to mention the fact that the military is for the most part not Liberal. It won't stay number one very long if it keeps this up.
shareI agree 100%. This is back to back liberal political episodes. What makes it worse is how stupid and predictable the episode was ( including the culprit and who Bishop is dating). One other point as bad as Quinn was last week, the 3 Stooges oops Quinn's brothers were worse. Throw in "Baby Abby" ( again worse then last week), and you get an episode I hate. Maybe the best thing was no Palmer. I said last week's episode was the worst except 'Faith' this episode is worse.

There is something really scary about an ethos that suggests two people with different skin tones is worthy of negative comment. That it would be necessary to make it part of a political agenda is downright frightening.
shareI read a lot of posts on this site and the amount of complaining and concern abt "liberal... PC... Sjw... Feminazi... Forced diversity... Lgbtq... Agendas forced down throats or pushed in faces" is staggering apparently anytime Caucasian heteronormative plots or characters are not front and center it's some kind of plan to brainwash somebody... It's so commonplace I can usually guess the complaints before I log on... And anytime it seems like a character who looks more like my mom (mixed lady) than my dad (white dude) is put up front the responses are predictable... It's forced.. They don't fit... No chemistry.. I don't like them.. It's always the same across many shows.. Sorry for the long post.. Just tired of not being surprised
