great films you never want to watch again

mysterious skin
requiem for a dream
life of david gale - more f_d up than i expected
basketball diarees

snow angels - great acting but otherwise now watching again anyways
butterfly effect - creative, but otherwise now worth the disturbingness

my friend sais american history x, but i could watch that a few times, the performance was so exilerating, and anger to me is easier to watch than depression

candy is another disturbing film that carried enough poetic beauty to watch again

havn't seen united or irreversable yet

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas was absolutely traumatizing. I felt sick to my stomach after. I don't think I could handle watching that movie again, not that I would need to as it left such a strong impression.

It is definitely a must see, but I think you would have to be completely desensitized to not be affected by it.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the film Der Untergang (or Downfall as it was called in English).

It's a German film (yes, you'll have to read the subtitles!) which revolves around Hitler's last few months in power and how he and those around him met their ends. Terrible, terrible events made all the more traumatising for knowing they really happened.

Another film I watched and swore I wouldn't again is the movie 8mm with Nicolas Cage. No idea who would enjoy that movie - it was just sick and kinda traumatising since I was only 16 at the time I saw it.

There's also Schindler's List which is probably a once-only viewing for most people too.

I can watch 'Schindler's List'...but I know I shouldn't. It still gets me every-time. Also 'Mysterious Skin', 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas', 'Mystic River' and I guess surprisingly 'Watchmen'. I thought it was kinda overrated, but the pedophile and the attempted rape scenes are when I clocked out emotionally.

I love watching Requiem just because it is so crafty and visually striking. DiCaprio's performance in The Basketball Diaries is great and certainly worth repeated viewings.

A few I have no desire to watch again:

Mytserious Skin
The Doom Generation (I could stop thinking about the last scene for weeks!)
AntiChrist (the prologue is awesome though)
Saw
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (I love Lynch, but this film didnt do much for me)
A Woman Under the Influence (great performances, but boring as crap in places)
Kids
Gummo

I completely agree with aforementioned Boys Don't Cry. That just hits you in the face like a sledgehammer. Glad I watched it though, very thought provoking film. Also Martyrs, some of those scenes were just so damn painful to watch.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned Straw Dogs. That film disturbed me to high hell. Although I have watched it twice, it's not a film I just a decide to stick on when I feel like it.

"The Girl Next Door" (2007)

I thought I was about to watch the 2004 comedy with Emile Hirsch...boy was I wrong. Pretty f^cking disturbing. Never again.

Bully, Requiem For A Dream, and American History X. Bully really frightened me, and Requiem For a Dream and American History X, while excellent films, were horrifying and incredibly depressing.

Also 2:37. It's an Australian film, very sad. The incest scene really, really got to me.

I am Jack's broken heart.

Completely agree on Boys don't cry and I have to add the swedish movie Lilja 4ever. Cried like a baby when I saw these two films.

mysterious skin is the only movie I saw that I actually fainted during the rape scene... fell of the chair and woke up maybe 1 hour later...
Never happened to me in any other movie before or after.
I finished watching it but donĀ“t know if will watch it ever again.

The numerous rape scenes in Blindness traumatized the *beep* out of me, for some odd reason. Not the rape itself, but the overall setting in which they took place; the situation.

Never wanna see that stuff again, ever.

reply

wow thats a serious impact! I cant say Ive ever fainted while watching a film (Ive fallen asleep in a few). I sure hope you havent seen Irreversable if the rape scene in Mysterious Skin was enough to make you pass out.
